Things I don't do (or rarely) that other people seem to do a lot

Squickety · 22/02/2019 16:33

Bottomless brunches
Theatre and west end shows
Skiing
Fancy afternoon teas
Girls nights out
Hen dos abroad

Fancy dress parties
Spa days / massages / blow dry / nails done
Days out for sporting events e.g. trip to Wimbledon, going to watch the rugby

I'm basing this on what many people I know on Facebook seem to do with their time. I feel like maybe I'm missing out on stuff. Or maybe not. I'm not sure, whenever I do these types of things I never enjoy them as much as I think I'm supposed to.

What do you not do that everyone else seems to?

I'm having quite a boring day obvs to be musing over this!

OP posts:
thenightsky · 22/02/2019 19:33

I really want to have a go at a bottomless brunch now.

heymammy · 22/02/2019 20:05

I don't do anything on your list either OP, I also don't:

Wear gym leggings as if they are normal clothes
Bleach the kitchen
Have a cheeky Nandos (or any kind of Nandos) Grin

Loopytiles · 22/02/2019 20:10

Almost all the things listed in your OP are costly. Is it a money thing?

halfwitpicker · 22/02/2019 20:12

Manicures
Soft play 😱😱😱

justasking111 · 22/02/2019 20:21

Skiing is out for me terrified of heights, could never get up the mountain and I am a klutz coordination wise. Have done a few of the other things at times. The hairdresser is a necessary evil I get so bored. Shopping I do when the mood takes me hit the shop usually in the spring and autumn when I need replacement clothes. Waxing legs, agony, I do have my eyebrows waxed now and again. Manicures my old hairdresser would manicure my nails while my colour was setting and wax my eyebrows etc., my new hairdresser does not offer that.

The girls a gang of 10 do organise nights out occasionally, they are fun but we do not really drink that much, most of us have to drive and come from different directions.

Ivegotthree · 22/02/2019 20:29

Ohh yes Nando's. Urgh, revolting. Dirty cutlery, crap food, having to order at the counter. No fucking way.

Ditto movie nights under blankets. Quite like the odd film but I prefer books.

Also CATS. I bloody hate them. I look at people's pics of their cats on social media in total bemusement. Disgusting the way they walk over the kitchen counter etc.

(I do love dogs though)

ashtrayheart · 22/02/2019 20:32

Get my nails done
Iron anything
Get my hair done (much)

Hmm maybe I’m just very scruffy Grin

WildFlower2019 · 22/02/2019 20:35

I'm 33. First and last hen do I went to was about 8 years ago.

I've never been skiing, for brunch, to the west end etc.

DH took me for afternoon tea about 3 yrs ago for my birthday.

We're going to a concert next week but that's the first proper fun thing we've done in a while.

HeronLanyon · 22/02/2019 20:41

‘Grabbing a coffee’ never have.

‘Pinging’ or ‘zapping’ something - have never owned a microwave.

Shopping as recreation. Never.

Spa days. Nightmare idea for me.

Facebook - not involved with it through thought through choice.

whatisheupto · 22/02/2019 20:56

Oh yes, McDonalds. Literally never go. Have recently realised for many people it is a weekly ritual (Duh, I know).

And also Strictly come Dancing, Dancingnon Ice etc.. don't see the appeal at all!

This thread is making me realise I'm not as mainstream as I thought 😁

BubblegumFactory · 22/02/2019 20:57

Great list op, glad I’m not alone ...
I’ll chuck in those evening invitistions to parties at people’s houses where you feel obliged to buy jewellery / clothing / kitchenware. No thanks.
Florida holidays. Not on your nelly.
Take That concerts. I can’t even think about Take That without feeling queasy.
Festivals. It’s just too expensive. I’d be forever thinking ‘ I have to get my money’s worth’
Going to the gym. Running in the fresh air, yes. Gym, no.
Date nights. We’ve been together 25 years. No need to act like teenagers any more.
Tweeting. I’m too dull to tweet.

BubblegumFactory · 22/02/2019 21:02

Also buying bags and shoes. Can’t get worked up about a bag.

cluecu · 22/02/2019 21:02

I imagine (this is an assumption as I don't know your friends) that it's not that people do these things a lot, rather than a lot of people do these things. And possibly they do it less often than it seems?

northernsouljunket · 22/02/2019 22:09

@ScreamingValenta Fair enough. It doesn’t sound like either would be remotely pleasant for you given that!

42andcounting · 22/02/2019 22:39

Listening to music. I just never do, I find it annoying. I've realised recently that I'm going to have to start having music on in the house so my 5yo doesn't grow up socially disadvantaged Grin Sad

jalopy · 23/02/2019 02:27

Tattoos.

SoyDora · 23/02/2019 03:03

I have done all the things on your list, but not as regular activities. Some of them I wish I did more of since having DC, some I’d happily never do again!

BrizzleMint · 23/02/2019 03:11

I do camping and takeaways but none of the others mentioned up thread.

Decormad38 · 23/02/2019 03:15

I bought a Groupon recently for a fancy afternoon tea with dh. I wasn’t that impressed tbh!

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 23/02/2019 03:19

Going to garden centres. People round here go to them just for coffee and cake. Why?!???

BartonHollow · 23/02/2019 03:22

Wear make up on ordinary days

Drink Prosecco at all (what is the fucking fascination?)

Buy into Instagram or aspirational/inspiration type lifestyle

Social media - I've quit it all

Have a major fascination with any individual sleb (gossip yes, "stanning someone" no

Watch The Soaps, The Real Housewives, Kardashian's, or TOWIE

Wincarnis · 23/02/2019 03:31

Spa Days
Baby showers
Designer handbags

Springwalk · 23/02/2019 03:47

Dinner parties every weekend (who has the time or energy? If you do this how please tell me ??)
Long country walks on Sunday
Group/ friends holidays
Lots of city/cultural breaks. I manage one a year max
Time for art exhibitions or non essential reading
Spending tons of time with friends. I never seem to have enough time.
Chronicle my life on SM
Photo albums

I do:
Ski ( it is fun and healthy)
Shows ( book the nutcracker in December if you decide to op )
Hibernate in the winter
Drag the dogs out for 15 mins
Spa ( I would need Valium without this treat occasionally)
Dinners out
Far flung holidays
Parties when I can face it
Afternoon teas and Prosecco makes me feel sick but I do go when I invited
Girls nights are rare but fun
Sporting events in the summer.

Springwalk · 23/02/2019 03:52

Sporting events are generally never ever worth the money or the stress of getting there. Apart from the London olympics that was awesome.

SoyDora · 23/02/2019 04:46

Going to garden centres. People round here go to them just for coffee and cake. Why?!???

I do this because ours has a small soft play in the cafe for the DC! The coffee and cake is extortionately priced though.
Used to regularly go to Cardiff to watch the rugby (we have a debenture) but haven’t been for a while sadly.
