Things I don't do (or rarely) that other people seem to do a lot

Squickety · 22/02/2019 16:33

Bottomless brunches
Theatre and west end shows
Skiing
Fancy afternoon teas
Girls nights out
Hen dos abroad

Fancy dress parties
Spa days / massages / blow dry / nails done
Days out for sporting events e.g. trip to Wimbledon, going to watch the rugby

I'm basing this on what many people I know on Facebook seem to do with their time. I feel like maybe I'm missing out on stuff. Or maybe not. I'm not sure, whenever I do these types of things I never enjoy them as much as I think I'm supposed to.

What do you not do that everyone else seems to?

I'm having quite a boring day obvs to be musing over this!

Camping
Running a marathon
Taking up veganism

Not sure which of those is worse to be honest.

TSSDNCOP · 22/02/2019 17:41

Yoga. All my friends are crazy about it, but I’m so preoccupied with thinking I’ll fart I cannot get into it.

Skiing. I am the person that will “Nicole” off the mountainside.

Shopping in NYC. I am a devoted shopper, but I find NYC utterly rubbish and I’ve lived there.

Prosecco. Galloping indigestion.

whatisheupto · 22/02/2019 17:41

Take aways
Never get pizza delivery, the price is so extortionate I can never understand why it is normalized.
Have never used Just eat or deliveroo
Also have never used Uber

The80sweregreat · 22/02/2019 17:53

I'm a bit older than people on here so it's nice to read others younger than me don't do a lot of things on your list! I hate shopping and the idea that spa days ( and the horrors of a swimsuit ) for fun leaves me cold.
I did girls nights out in the 80s but it was pub/ club then home. The thought of it now .. I couldn't imagine anything worse.
Gel nails looked great but they did bugger up my own nails for months and it's taken ages to get them looking ok again. Plus it's a lot of dosh.
I do get hair cut every 8 weeks though ; looks lovely for a few days then back to bring horrible!

bringincrazyback · 22/02/2019 18:00

Meals out on every single bloody social occasion (so boring, can't anyone ever think up something else to do?!) and afternoon tea.(Afternoon tea seems particularly pointless and a rip-off to me, and probably still would even if I drank tea.)
Never had a manicure or pedicure, my nails are too shit to be worth it.
Never had anything done to my eyebrows because I'm lousy with pain.
Barbecues the second there's a tiny sliver of sunshine... uh., why? SO much faff. (Plus when people call them 'BBQs' it makes me want to throw things.)
Oh, and coffee mornings, because I don't do coffee and I don't do mornings.

The grumpy tone is partly tongue-in-cheek BTW Grin but I genuinely don't see the appeal of any of those things.

Grinchly · 22/02/2019 18:08

Movie nights snuggled under a blanket with hot chocolate HmmHmm

Insomnibrat · 22/02/2019 18:14

Movie nights snuggled under a blanket with hot chocolate

Maybe if it's cold/you're a bit ill/have been working really hard and just need some proper downtime. But otherwise I don't see the appeal either. Unless the weather is truly Baltic I just build up a terrible sweat if I try to get winsomely cosy under a blanket.

The80sweregreat · 22/02/2019 18:17

I've had three afternoon teas in the past ( different venues for different reasons etc) and it was a bit of a rip off but I can see the appeal if there is a real mix of ages or relatives want something that doesn't involve alcohol or getting to anywhere late at night.
It must be a real money spinner for hotels and cafes though and most of it was low on substance to be honest. I like drinking tea so that bit was alright!

ShannonRockallMalin · 22/02/2019 18:17

Watch Strictly/xfactor etc. Never have, never intend to.

Go to see pantomimes at Christmas. The only time I did when the kids were little I actually panicked as the curtains went up realising I had to sit through this drivel for two hours and I didn’t even have a book with me. Ditto musicals and the cinema.

Also never had nails, waxes etc.

notanothernam · 22/02/2019 18:17

Ooh bottomless brunch sounds good! Where can I find one of those?!

DarlingNikita · 22/02/2019 18:18

I do quite like barbecuing because you can cook things like fresh mackerel without stinking out the house (my house is mostly open-plan upstairs and down).

GregoryPeckingDuck · 22/02/2019 18:19

Drinking-some people drink on a daily basis. How are they not permenantly pissed?
Waxing-just why?
False eye lashes-not into the look
Spectator sports-if I went to hell it would be a never ending arsenal game
Reading magazines (barring the economist which is like a monthly version of the ft)
Exercise

Hanumantelpiece · 22/02/2019 18:22

Date night
Kids- free holiday
Holidays abroad
Drive a Landover
Own Uggs
Bingo night
Brunch anywhere
Regular salon appointments

dudsville · 22/02/2019 18:24

Things of an evening. I very rarely do evening activities.
I've just recently stored getting take aeays. They were a rare treat that i never enjoyed!

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 22/02/2019 18:28

Spa days - hate massages, hate getting wet
Mani/Pedicures - hate being touched, rather do them myself
Skiing - tried it, I’m shit at it
Camping - no way is that a holiday, it is sheer bloody misery
Running - and telling everyone about it at great and tedious length
Zumba - getting sweaty to music I don’t like, no thanks
Watching football/rugby

Calvinsmam · 22/02/2019 18:30

I do pretty much all of those things on the list but I don’t have kids.

Calvinsmam · 22/02/2019 18:32

Movie nights snuggled under a blanket with hot chocolate hmmhmm

Whaaaaaat???? This is actually my life.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 22/02/2019 18:37

Oh coffee. I don’t drink coffee. Something that, according to my FB feed, most other adults can’t perform basic self care tasks without Confused

Squickety · 22/02/2019 18:38

I watch movies (or films as I'm of an age where movies sounds like something Americans say)
I am often found under a blanket in winter
I do like hot chocolate

But not all together, I'd end up spilling the hot chocolate on the blanket and spoiling the movie film

Ooohhh SPIN CLASSES

half an hour of booming music and getting shouted at? No thanks 🤢

WhoahThereCrazyHorse · 22/02/2019 19:11

Lip fillers!!!

MycatsaPirate · 22/02/2019 19:24

I often think I should have been born a cat. I have zero interest in 'girly' stuff. Spa days, shoes, shopping, make up tutorials - not for me.

My FB feed currently has posts asking for vegan recipes. (Presumably so they can get 'vegan points' rather than an inability to use google)

And lots of posts from people asking randomers where they should go on holiday this year.

Mostly I just post photos of the cats.

northernsouljunket · 22/02/2019 19:27

@ScreamingValenta Could you afford to get your hair done or nails done? I cut my own hair for ten years and swore there was no need to pay a professional until I went for the first time and realised why people pay for it. It makes such a difference.
And nails. If you can afford to try it, I would give it a go!

ScreamingValenta · 22/02/2019 19:33

@northernsouljunket I could afford it, and my hair would probably benefit, but I'm squeamish about being touched by people I don't know, so I only 'have things done' that are absolutely necessary, i.e. medical, optical and dental procedures. My hair is curly, so I can trim off the dry/split ends without it looking uneven as it would with straight hair, fortunately.
