A not too expensive simple one that dd and I can learn on? Blame Sewing Bee!

Do NOT by the john Lewis mini one. I did and it's crap and unfixable.

Lidl Singer is what I got after and it's just great. I assume their own brand one is actually a singer too.

Oh dear, did you buy the one you shouldn't buy?

My Pfaff sewing machine is over 20 years old and still going strong. (More's the pity, quite fancy a trendy new one!!)

If both you and your DD want to learn to sew, can I suggest Burda Style magazine. It comes with a huge number of patterns (you have to trace them out onto pattern paper though), and includes a master class for one pattern where they take you through how to do it step-by-step with pictures and diagrams all the way through.

Thank you for the Buda suggestion- sounds just what we need. I ordered the John Lewis one because it comes in red-watch this space for a live sewing machine thread!

Janome all the way!

I have 2. A mini one which dd uses and mine.

With the mini one we have made cushions cover and dresses for dolls etc. My bigger one I’ve made curtains, blinds, quilts.

Both are fab machines.

It's not an easy choice to make. Try to consider these options sewingland.org/best-computerized-sewing-machine/, perhaps looking at reviews of some of the products you will find it easier to make a choice.

Hello! I also recently chose a sewing machine for myself - embroidery machine review and comparison enjoythesewing.com/best-embroidery-machine. For me, its functionality became key factors, well, to be honest - I just decided to please myself on my birthday. The youngest daughter said that next year she will also learn to embroider, like her mother. So I feel that this business will drag us head over heels and soon I will have to choose her children's sewing machine.
