Should I be in a rush to renew my passport?

I have a British passport but do not live in the UK.

I need to renew it, but not sure if I should do it now or if it could wait a while until things have settled down a little.

It not that I need to use it in the near future, and I have a 2nd passport in case of needing to travel urgently. I would prefer to do it a few months down the line as will have more funds freed up then (its a little pricing to do it from this side), but if I should be doing it now for whatever reasons, could you let me have your opinions please.

When we replaced ours while living abroad it was done via the consular office. My only concerns would be around lead times or just forgetting.

Yes it will be sent to the consulate here, but I believe it is then sent to the UK for processing now.

I was just wondering if there would be a big influx now, and will there benefits or negatives of me me any doing it later rather than sooner.
