Seems to be a lot of pre brexit stockpiling going on here. But none in real life Confused

Icecreamcarton - really? I think it's realistic and even the govt does, else why are they preparing the police and armed forces for civil unrest and putting evacuation plans in place for the royal family?

"it's not especially unhinged if you have seen how people reacted not long ago to KFC running out. Or people at Black Friday sales." Also true. I've all dads side are military mainly army, ex is army (and only recently "retired" so can still be recalled) and bro is police. The people I know currently serving in police & military are being told and training updated where necessary to deal with possible unrest as a result of this utter fuck up!

Local last year again the bad weather, there were several fights broke out in the supermarkets over food. They got really nasty really quickly.

Graphista · 21/02/2019 17:14

Reminds me of this quote from men in black oddly

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals, and you know it!"

Having worked in a&e depts too I can attest that people frightened about a sick loved one who thinks they're not getting the hell they need can absolutely turn very aggressive and dangerous very quickly.

Graphista · 21/02/2019 17:15

Argh auto correct is making my posts bonkers Grin

The HELP they need

Icecreamcarton · 21/02/2019 18:34

Of course there may be unrest and it would be ridiculous to have not prepared for it. But unrest because the population is starving seems unlikely.....

The royal family thing is a bit of a red herring too isn’t it!

bellinisurge · 21/02/2019 18:59

There is "starving " and there is "pissed off because you can't buy what you prefer and what there is is more expensive ". People get angry over the latter too, y'know.

Icecreamcarton · 21/02/2019 19:07

Indeed. But neither of those things mean you need to prep because there’s no food on the shelves? I’m not sure of the argument here?

bellinisurge · 21/02/2019 19:08

So you fancy being in a supermarket when Mr Angry kicks off , do you?

Graphista · 21/02/2019 19:16

Seriously have you ever worked with or been involved with people who are fearful they or their families aren't getting something essential?

Because I can assure you those of us that have know all too well how quickly tempers can flare out of fear.

And to be honest you're being quite dismissive anyway. It should NEVER have got to this point.

Art 50 should NEVER have been triggered BEFORE at least plans in place for a possible no deal, certainly once it was triggered plans for a possible no deal SHOULD have been made.

I think some people think it's just the govt cabinet involved in organising this stuff. There's 100,000's of civil servants throughout the country who could have been set tasks to prepare for all eventualities. That hasn't been done in a properly organised way at all.

We're now 36 DAYS to brexit day and out govt are STILL running round like headless fucking chickens with MPs defecting from parties and NOBODY knows for definite wtf is going on!

They're playing brinksmanship politics with people's LIVES

Food is frankly not even the thing I'm most concerned about!

I have OCD and other health conditions, dd also has a disability and medications and we're STILL not getting info on what's happening with THEM!

One of my meds there's a great big fuck off earning on the patient info leaflet not to stop them suddenly as that can trigger HEART issues.

I've relatives on diabetes, thyroid and chemo meds that are ALSO not getting reassurances.

It's an utter disgrace it's been allowed to reach this stage!

Graphista · 21/02/2019 19:21

"I’m not sure of the argument here?"

The argument is its bloody irresponsible of the govt to have allowed it to get to the point where these are real enough concerns for people. Where people not only have to worry if there'll be food in the shops but if they'll be able to get it safely.

Cloudtree · 21/02/2019 19:29

I’m not sure why you’re so convinced there will be enough. We produce very little at this time of year. The supermarkets usually hold three days of stock. They have stored an extra few days worth. If anyone is convinced any supply chain issues will be resolved within a week then I suspect they’ve not read up on the situation very much. Plus then factor in the fact that the minute people see gaps in the shelves they buy extras...

Springwalk · 21/02/2019 19:31

No one at all is stock piling here. Absolutely no need.

Icecreamcarton · 21/02/2019 19:34

@Graphista your response to me is nonsensical. Why are you having a go at me about Brexit as if I’m supporting it. It’s a shit show. It’s appalling. I can’t bear the Tories. Doesn’t mean I think we’re about to starve though...

So you fancy being in a supermarket when Mr Angry kicks off , do you?

So the argument now is we will be too scared to go to supermarkets not that there won’t be enough food?

Icecreamcarton · 21/02/2019 19:34

We can always fly to Brussels and eat waffles if we get that hungry...

themoomoo · 21/02/2019 19:35

Also hungry, frightened people get pissed off! Before they get to a point where they're too weak to fight they'll get angry! That's what will likely lead to the civil unrest
brilliant! I needed a laugh!

maddiemookins16mum · 21/02/2019 19:52

I ordered an extra box of Felix last week, does that count?

maddiemookins16mum · 21/02/2019 19:53

Mr Angry, him that used to be on Radio 1 with Steve Wright in the 80’s...that Mr Angry?

humptydoo · 21/02/2019 19:57

I’m as anti Brexit as the next (sane) person but I’m not sure this type of rhetoric is helping anyone. It seems a little unhinged!

You can bet that the media will hype it up though. Even if there's just one shelf with no bread on it in a supermarket it will be front page news, PANIC IN BREXIT BRITAIN or whatever the fuck.

Through my work I'm extremely tangentially and distantly involved in informing EU exporters about how things are going to change in the event of a hard Brexit. The amount of extra paperwork they have to organise really is scary. Fortunately there are brokers to assist with that sort of thing, but it all costs extra money, and there are extra tariffs to pay. All of that will obviously be passed on to the consumer (when is it not?). It's got nothing to do with EU producers not wanting to sell their goods to the UK. Growers and exporters desperately want to carry on doing business just as they've always done! But the laws will be changing and obviously they have no choice but to comply.

Graphista · 21/02/2019 19:57

I was responding to your tone

Btw

And that's just over a "bargain" not shoppers fearful of not getting enough food at all.

HeronLanyon · 21/02/2019 19:58

I started withnokives and capers around 6 months ago now fully stocked for a good several weeks I think.
I’ve been astounded that almost everyone I know is doing similar when the subject crops up. For a long time I thought I was in a ministry and a bit crazy for doing it.
Saw quite a few obvious stockpilers today at a central Waitrose and really unusually empty shelves (coffee, pasta, Parmesan and loo roll)

HeronLanyon · 21/02/2019 19:59

Minirity not ministry.

EntirelyAnonymised · 21/02/2019 20:00

*minority.

GregoryPeckingDuck · 21/02/2019 20:00

I don’t know anyone who has. Tbh I don’t see the point when one can just go and buy food else where. Maybe it’s just because most of my close friends are international in some way or other so were all used to being able to just go elsewhere when issues arise.

HeronLanyon · 21/02/2019 20:01

Grin I gave up. Thank you !

humptydoo · 21/02/2019 20:02

Tbh I don’t see the point when one can just go and buy food else where.

Elsewhere like where? Not being rude, I'm just not sure what you mean.

Icecreamcarton · 21/02/2019 20:02

Stockpiling Parmesan would be the most middle class thing in the world to do!
