Anybody know the cheapest way to call home from India?!

Random I know... but Mumsnetters know everything.

My parents are going on holiday to Goa for 3 weeks and my 92 year old Gran is so upset because she thinks they won't be able to talk to her. She doesn't have a mobile, only a land line. Using their mobile phones when out there is not an option (they've checked on the o2 website and I think they had to add something that cost £120 a month?!) or something daft like that.

I'm hoping they'll be able to maybe get a phone card and call on a phone box like everyone else used to. However my Gran is convinced it'll cost loads so has resigned herself to not hearing from them for 3 weeks Hmm Anybody any experience? if like to reassure her. thank you!

They can call a landline via skype. They can use skype from their mobile or laptop as long as there is wifi.

When my husband was in India recently we chatted on WhatsApp which was free. Could she chat to them on WhatsApp at your house using your mobile and broadband?

thanks, yes I'll try and set up chatting via WhatsApp or Skype but I suppose it relies on their WiFi and whether she's with me at the time. I'll ook into Skype more as I've never used it Smile
