Don't know what to do

Can't get hold of DM. She's expecting us today but not answered her phone when I called to say we were leaving, called en route, called as we arrived. Rang the doorbell.

She's in a sheltered block of flats, so contacted them as I've got no key. They the only thing they could do was call an ambulance for a welfare check. They can give them access details.

So I'm waiting for an ambulance. With two bored DCs.

How long am I likely to be waiting? I'm trying desperately to hold it together and not let them see how worried I am, but DD is 9 and not stupid.

I hope she's okay. That must be a terrible worry for you.

LilQueenie · 20/02/2019 16:12

I would expect it would be classed as an emergency so not long. Hope all is ok for you.

LilQueenie · 20/02/2019 16:15

was it a house phone or mobile you called op? If a mobile do you have that thing where you can see her whereabouts on it? facebook even as that can sometimes throw up the area you are in. Perhaps check with neighbours too. They may have seen her leave at some point.

If you think potentially she’s unwell inside the property then call the police. They have the power to force entry if needed. The ambulance can’t do that. They’ll just end up calling the police to come and assist. You’d be justified calling them on 999. I used to be a call handler for them and that would be treated as an emergency (response within 15 minutes).
I do hope everything turns out ok. Flowers

Thecrown3 · 20/02/2019 16:39

Oh, what a worry. Is there no warden that can go in?

I've had an identical situation with an elderly relative in sheltered accommodation. The warden let themselves in only to find that she was watching TV with headphones on and had heard nothing. She got the fright of her life suddenly seeing people standing there but was ok. I hope it's something like that for you. It happens a lot so the police may not be in a rush unfortunately...

Yellowpokadotbikini · 20/02/2019 16:59

Quartz2208 · 20/02/2019 17:01

I hope she is ok

I wonder whether getting a key cut might work - both my parents have mums in sheltered housing and both have keys and boxes outside the door that can be accessed via a number that contains a key

glitterbiscuits · 20/02/2019 17:04

I hope she is safe and well.

I recommend investing in a key safe as soon as today's situation is resolved.

PeterPiperPickedWrong · 20/02/2019 17:07

Are you still waiting? I hope all is well Flowers

NerrSnerr · 20/02/2019 17:17

How worrying for you. I hope it's all resolved now and you're inside having a cup of tea.

I'm waiting for the coroner's people and trying to work out what to do.

I've got so many phone calls to make but it's so much easier here.

She was a miserable old sod but I want my mum back!!!
