Early puberty?

My daughter is almost 8, and I have noticed she is beginning to develop some breast tissue and has some hairs under her arms. She has had BO for around 6 months. Is this too early for these signs? Should I take her to the GP?

Not sure what is 'normal' these days ... I started periods around 11 if it helps.

Girls who start puberty at age 8 is deemed normal.

Though, as she is just under 8 and you seem worried. I will talk to your GP and if appropriate ask him to refer your DD to see an endocrinologist- thats if you feel your not happy with your GP's suggestions.

For the time being, contact the Child Growth Foundation, they have a helpline and offer advice to parents whose children are starting puberty early.

HTH !

Thanks very much, I will take a look. And will make an appointment with the GP, just to be on the safe side.

It's normal for 8, on the early side but normal. My DD started showing signs at 4, it took 6 months to see a peadiatrician and another 6 to see a consultant endocrinologist. Hopefully it's better in your area!!

Thanks, I'll take her to the GP. Those waiting times are terrible!

DD started early puberty at 8. Took her to the GP who said was within the 'normal' range.
