Kids and online games

What age do you let your kids play online games such as minecraft, fortnite, roblox?
My DS is 6 and is hounding me to let him play roblox after watching a friend playing it.
I've briefly looked into the games and have seen that the rough age guide for roblox is 12 but loads of younger kids are playing it.
It worries me but at the same time I don't want him to feel he's the only one not allowed to play it.
Thanks.

I’d let him play. Turn all chat options off and keep an eye on the games he’s playing.

I let mine 10 and 7 year olds play roblox online but the chat is turned off. They’ve played it for maybe two years?

They play mincraft but not online - I would let them if it was in a private server with friends. Not open and online. They do not play Fortnite but they do play Destiny, it is online but again no chat function.

They also only play these games in the living room so they’re not exposed to anything accidentally.

DD has been on roblox since 5. Chat is off, i check her friend requests frequently (not allowed any) and she plays in the same room as me. She also shows me what she's doing all the time and tries to get me to play it with her so no concerns. Atm I'm doing all the maths questions in some high school role play game. Confused

Definitely no Fortnite though.

Thanks very much for the replies. Will set it up with chat turned off and regular checking of it. Definitely no fortnite!

It’s fine as long as you use parental controls and block all voice and message options. Keep the console in the same room as you. Harassment and shocking language is rife online, it’s not just swearing it’s utterly grim stuff, long term gamer here.
