So I'm slowly thinking about a return to work. Our nearest nursery charges £2,100 for a full time place 😳 Jesus wept.

That's very steep! Shop around!

Auntiepatricia · 19/02/2019 20:28

Christ that’s shocking!

halfwitpicker · 19/02/2019 20:28

Is that right?

Urgh2019 · 19/02/2019 20:29

But do you need to use them just because they are nearer. I would think a nanny would be cheaper than that.

DonnaDarko · 19/02/2019 20:30

Are you in London? I worked with a lady who spent 1.8k per month on 4 days

CoffeeRunner · 19/02/2019 20:31

That is insane!

Do you have a spare room? A nanny would undoubtedly be cheaper!

BikeRunSki · 19/02/2019 20:31

Per month halfwitpicker

Ellieboolou27 · 19/02/2019 20:32

Childminder!
took me ages to find the right one but she was amazing, I found her on childcare.co.uk.

I was in

CannyLad · 19/02/2019 20:34

£100 per day? Hope it's a gold plated snot free nursery.

LovingLola · 19/02/2019 20:34

Per week?!

No. It’s the monthly cost for 5 days per week - so roughly 22 days per month give or take

halfwitpicker · 19/02/2019 20:34

Thanks, bike

LovingLola · 19/02/2019 20:35

What are the hours OP ?

MerryMarigold · 19/02/2019 20:35

Not just that. You'll likely be charged for bank holidays and any holidays you take. I just couldn't bring myself to pay out a grand of childcare for a 2 week holiday when the kid's not even there! And this is why I stayed home with 3 kids.

smokealarm · 19/02/2019 20:35

@DonnaDarko yep, we are in central London. It's not even a fancy nursery, just a Bright Horizons franchise!

OP posts:
smokealarm · 19/02/2019 20:37

@LovingLola 7.30am-6.00pm

OP posts:
MerryMarigold · 19/02/2019 20:38

That's normal hours. Some are 7 to 7. Hate to think what they charge!!

WeeDangerousSpike · 19/02/2019 20:38

Bloody hell! That's more than double what I pay!

I'm going to make you hate me now by telling you if we need less sessions, as long as we give at least a week's notice then we don't need to pay for them. And we don't pay for days nursery is shut, like bank Holidays, and we can add extra sessions here and there with no fuss. I love my nursery Grin

WeeDangerousSpike · 19/02/2019 20:39

Oh, and we pay by quarter hour booked. No full or half day nonsense.

notanothernam · 19/02/2019 20:41

I was just going to ask if it was Bright Horizons as I recognised that chart! Ouch, we used a BH nursery for 3 years in London, no as high as that though! Most we paid was £1350 a month for 2 kids, can't remember if that was 3 or 4 days a week.

TeddyIsaHe · 19/02/2019 20:41

Christ! I thought mine were bad at £650 a month for 3 days a week. Good job dd loves going or I’d really fecking hate paying the fees every month.

DonnaDarko · 19/02/2019 20:41

I think that's normal for London :( we're in Kent , and we pay 1k for a full time place.

kaytee87 · 19/02/2019 20:42

Christ. Our lovely little local nursery is £44 per day, open 7.30-6 50 weeks per week. They shut for 2 weeks at Christmas for which you're not charged. Open all of the bank holidays etc.

RollerJed · 19/02/2019 20:42

Wow that's ridiculous! Second a child minder. Ours was lovely and made my dc feel part of her family. We still speak regularly and we live in Aus now!

Since2016 · 19/02/2019 20:43

OP that’s cheaper than we pay... £750 pm for 2 days a week for a 3 year old. London.
