Identity theft

I’ve just been a victim of this. I’ve received a credit card, fully authorised and ready to be activated and used. Sent to my home address, with most of my details correct. Apart from the question of how the fuck this got through the application and ID checking process (which I’m picking up with the credit card company) what is the end game here? Would the fraudster have been hoping to change the address once the card had been issued, and get spending? Or would it be a longer game of building up a paper trail of little fraudulent accounts that would then be used as the foundation for a bigger fraud? Or just a straightforward attempt to intercept the card and use it? I’m struggling to understand where the crook gets the benefit if everything is routing back to me, does anyone know?

Probably should have mentioned the salient fact that I didn’t apply for the bloody card in the first place Hmm

They’d have hoped to intercept the card.

I used to work in fraud. Feel free to pm me if you need any advice.
