Shamima Begum has her citizenship revoked

How can this happen? I thought they aren't allowed to leave a person stateless? Not that I'm disagreeing, I'm just wondering how they managed it.

OP posts:
Lettherebelight · 19/02/2019 22:28

She was radicalised while 15 years old in the UK. How can the government refuse to accept responsibility for that and foist her onto another country??

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/02/2019 22:28

Errr - wouldn't it be worth establishing whether or not Shamima's actually had a baby, before we start worrying over what happens to the alleged child?

First steps and all that ...

mirialis · 19/02/2019 22:28

Who said she "fled ISIS"?

RedWineIsFabulous · 19/02/2019 22:29

Thank fuck for that.

The do gooders are what fucks the country up.

Some of the posts I’ve read on here astound me and make my stomach turn .

I repeat. Thank fuck for that.

LanaorAna2 · 19/02/2019 22:30

Britain does take back Brit terrorists. No country, UK included, has a duty to house foreign terrorists. As it happens, most states (UK included) are often hassled to deport serious crims to their own country - international law's quite firm about countries dealing with their own trouble.

B is Bangladeshi too; she'll never be British; the baby isn't British; her husband's Dutch. Most of her family are in Bangladesh.

Tickets to Dhaka are inexpensive. Non-issue.

sagradafamiliar · 19/02/2019 22:30

The daily mail said she fled Isis (I had to misfortune to click onto a link on another thread yesterday).

WatcherintheRye · 19/02/2019 22:30

Latest child will probably be removed by the social services wherever she is now.

Haha! - you reckon? In a Syrian refugee camp? Hmm

TheTurtleDidItAndRanAway · 19/02/2019 22:31

I am most fucking certain those of you who are thinking this is brilliant wouldn't be quite so happy with another country insisting we keep their terrorists here and taking away their citizenship.

Personally, I'd rather have the groomed teenage bride back rather than any of the actual terrorist men who have committed atrocities here.. but yes, well done. Slow applause etc. You sure showed that post partum teenager (and her British, likely to die baby) who's the boss.

SaturdayNext · 19/02/2019 22:32

So she was born, educated and brought up in the UK. Whatever she is, she is what Britain made her. And now we want to dump the problem on Bangladesh. What have they done to deserve it?

TheTurtleDidItAndRanAway · 19/02/2019 22:32

Haha! - you reckon? In a Syrian refugee camp?

It's basically a holiday camp you know. Hmm

Katterinaballerina · 19/02/2019 22:34

She was born in England. She has never even visited Bangladesh. She doesn’t have dual citizenship. All this is on the basis that her parents nationality allows her to apply for Bangladeshi citizenship.

humptydoo · 19/02/2019 22:36

what is supposed to happen to her son who is a British citizen

He's not though; if you're not British by birth then you can't pass on your citizenship to your children if they're born outside Britain.

I assume the baby was born stateless as Dutch law means that he's not Dutch either.

KingHenrysCodpiece · 19/02/2019 22:36

Anyway, whether it "sticks" or not, at least there's a hope that the citizenship-stripping might put off anyone who'd considered getting her out ... or am I deluding myself?

I think your are rather.

TheresACatInMyLaundryBasket · 19/02/2019 22:37

I'm glad some one has taken that step to ensure the safety of decent British people

And decent Bangladeshi people? They have suffered enough from terrorism as well. They won't want her. Nobody wants her. Best to have her stand trial somewhere and then leave her in prison for a long, long time, so that no decent human, anywhere, can ever be harmed by her again.

Farahilda · 19/02/2019 22:38

"use it as further "proof" that we should leave ECHR"

Yes, that's a sign of lack of understanding, as it's a UN treaty behind this, and sod all to do with EU.

Also is the comparison to the 300 returned on Syria. Because self-evidently they are the ones who couid not have citizenship removed. About 100 have has citizenship removed (so are not included in the numbers returned, possibly facing prosecution).

What has happened to her is far from unprecedented.

Saylav · 19/02/2019 22:38

I think it's the sheer gall of her that annoys me.

Bring it closer to home. I'm a child brought up in London to IRA sympathising parents. I decide to go to Ireland to marry a bomber. I marry him and then decide, you know what, the health system is shit here, I want my baby to be born under the NHS. I still am fully Irish terrorist in my views and make no apology for it. When I'm asked about bombs in Enniskillen, London etc., I hide my amusement but state that it was retaliation and fair play.

Would you have me back? I'm 19 now.

sagradafamiliar · 19/02/2019 22:38

Saturday and kat that is an uncomfortable truth for so many, it's been said many times but people are wilfully ignoring it because they can't accept the facts.
Then again I've seen many calls for 'send them home! Deport them' on Facebook about other British people. Rooted in racism methinks.

WatcherintheRye · 19/02/2019 22:38

Not sure what your point is, Turtle? Mine was that I'm somewhat baffled that a pp could imagine that 'Social Services' would be operating in a Syrian refugee camp. Hmm

SaturdayNext · 19/02/2019 22:40

The stupid thing about this is that it's an absolute gift to people currently doing their best to radicalise as many people as possible in the UK. So for the sake of keeping out one rather dim teenager, we will reap the reward of several more home-grown potential terrorists living amongst us and in their turn doing their best to groom more vulnerable children. Still, so long as it feeds into Javid's leadership ambitions, who cares, eh?

You can only take citizenship away from someone who's lucky enough to have more than one right of residency, or who just wants another citizenship to add to their existing one. Most people only have one nationality.

Of course countries should have the right to accept or refuse an extra citizenship according to their own and international law. Even IS wouldn't suggest otherwise.

The baby isn't likely to die in a refugee camp - they've changed a bit since Live Aid, you know. He's a lot safer than he would be in Mummy's tender arms, that's for sure. Both his elder brothers are dead thanks to her exciting new friends.

TheTurtleDidItAndRanAway · 19/02/2019 22:41

Hence my obviously agreeing with you.

Katterinaballerina · 19/02/2019 22:41

Saylav there were many in N Ireland who were IRA supporters. We didn’t strip them of British citizenship because they had a right to an Irish passport.

Really? someone should tell all the mothers of children who died this winter to stop telling tales. Been all over the news.
