Shamima Begum has her citizenship revoked

How can this happen? I thought they aren't allowed to leave a person stateless? Not that I'm disagreeing, I'm just wondering how they managed it.

If she was my relative, I'd say quiet too

You could be right, but that still leaves the issue of their choice of lawyer. In such a position I don't think I'd have picked one who said, among much else, that muslims shouldn't cooperate with the police, but there you go

Anyway, whether it "sticks" or not, at least there's a hope that the citizenship-stripping might put off anyone who'd considered getting her out ... or am I deluding myself?

You're a bit late to the party? Might serve you well to read the whole thread since you're good at making leaps, you should plough through it.

Budsbegginingspringinsight · 19/02/2019 22:10

It's just not your average grooming though.

Not many people will be sent video of beheading ands think it's a good Idea and go and seek it out.

There are deeper layers too this.

WTAF!Shock Eamonn Bradley wasn't stripped of his British citizenship, despite having dual nationality.

But then he was a white adult man. Young, brown girls are obviously different and have no rights.Hmm

Fuck that shit!AngryAngryAngry

I thought we were supposed to be a civilised country? Where is our compassion? She may be a foolish young woman, but she was a child when she left. She was groomed by terrorists, FFS!

She's not a "foolish" young woman, she didn't go to a nightclubbing without a coat.

She went off to join ISIS, she was asked her opinion on the Manchester bombings, about all the innocent people, did you see her reaction, her face? She's not sorry about what happened under the banner of what she believes. Only a certain type of person is groomed by terrorists, at 15 you know right from wrong, she'd have you executed in a heartbeat or your family, but awww poor her right?

Genevieva · 19/02/2019 22:15

@DataBreachCentral are you suggesting that the government is fearful of lynch mobs? I thought the stabbing in Brighton was related to drugs dealing.

ReflectentMonatomism · 19/02/2019 22:16

There is a minor industry in gobby lawyers who lose cases but look like they are trying. This is another one.

mirialis · 19/02/2019 22:17

Again, so arrogant to talk of whether this person deserves our compassion.

It's not about compassion, it's about stepping up and dealing with OUR problems and not expecting overstretched refugee camps full of people who have fled ISIS to deal with it.

France is stepping up and taking them back to deal with them - it is appalling that the British government is just washing their hands.

MadgeMidgerson · 19/02/2019 22:17

sorry, but this feels chilling and there will be far reaching consequences

Katterinaballerina · 19/02/2019 22:17

‘I'm glad some one has taken that step to ensure the safety of decent British people.’

That’s the point though isn’t it? Not all British people are ‘decent’. We have murderers, rapists, sociopaths and Toby Young. We shouldn’t start take nationality away from someone because we loathe what they have done. Charge them, prosecute them and imprison them.

Saylav · 19/02/2019 22:18

I think they picked the best lawyer Wink

Saylav · 19/02/2019 22:19

She didn't bloody flee ISIS though.

DioneTheDiabolist · 19/02/2019 22:20

Only a certain type of person is groomed by terrorists,

I'm from NI, I can assure you that many types of people are groomed by terrorists.Hmm

64632K · 19/02/2019 22:20

Really poor decision made here. What happens when we want to deport foreign criminals but their Countries simply no we stripped their citizenship, if we won't accept your citizens back then how can we be up in arms when others wont. Too many flood gates here.

sagradafamiliar · 19/02/2019 22:21

No, sin. No. Stop bringing up innocent victims to use as weapons instead of having a proper argument. It's distasteful. Those people are dead. You did not know them. They may have thought like you, or they may have taken pride in our legal system, due process and history of human rights. You don't know. You do not know. Think up your own opinion.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/02/2019 22:23

I don't know either way, but it was interesting to read the father's remarks concerning his two other sons who went to Syria

Yet another one who blames absolutely everyone else Hmm

Fair enough sin. And the baby?

SaturdayNext · 19/02/2019 22:25

This has pandering to the Daily Mail readership written all over it, and it's potentially a very dangerous precedent.

Other issues apart, what is supposed to happen to her son who is a British citizen and clearly has done nothing to have his citizenship revoked?

mirialis · 19/02/2019 22:26

She didn't bloody flee ISIS though

No she didn't - she went to a hugely overstretched refugee camp full of innocent people who have bloody fled ISIS.

And we want to just wash our hands and leave them to deal with it.

The British government is behaving disgracefully in flouting international law to do this, and also costing the taxpayer a shitload to take it to court, and is doing so to keep all the "hang her, bomb her, fuck her" idiots on side.

This is not about "compassion", "sympathy", "empathy"... it is a shameful way to behave, not leaat when France are recognising that NO ONE wants them back but that it is the DUTY of our country to deal with our problems and not expect others to wipe up our mess.

sagradafamiliar · 19/02/2019 22:26

Agreed, Saturday. It really is bloody chilling.
We're in really murky territory now.

Saylav · 19/02/2019 22:27

So why say she fled IS then?

howrudeforme · 19/02/2019 22:28

Saylav - I personally think she’s a nobody - she comes across as quite dumb - too cool for school. She contradicts herself constantly.

There was another British woman a few years back - Samantha lewthwaite (?) who was considered - according to press- hugely influential and high up in el Shabab.
Really - just another unremarkable person with an unremarkable life who wants to be different. And they take it to the extreme with horrific consequences for themselves and others.

Sadly this young woman had two children that died due to the appalling conditions - why have another child in those circumstances? It was her choice to go and live that life.

If this woman wants to come home, let her try. And then let her face the consequences (legal).
