How can this happen? I thought they aren't allowed to leave a person stateless? Not that I'm disagreeing, I'm just wondering how they managed it.

Can’t believe this needs saying but a Home Secretary’s job is to protect its own national security, not that of Bangladesh.

Maybe I missed it mistri but couldn’t see if you answered my question about your post?

DangermousesSidekick · 19/02/2019 20:05

What do you propose Mistigri? Bring her back and shove her in jail permanently? There's no way she should be walking around free on the streets of Britain. If the child is brought back here it ought to be for adoption imo.

Rainbunny · 19/02/2019 20:05

I have no sympathy for her, she is an adult who is well aware of her choices, remains unrepentant and is responsible for her actions. I'm tired of people infantilising her. I used to be a bleeding heart about issues like this but after a life lived around the world, no longer. I suggest we take in 100 Syrian refugees in exchange for leaving her where she is.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 19/02/2019 20:05

I truly truly believe that if she’d been repentant this would not have happened.

As hard as it is to take she is 19 now and as much as I totally believe she has been brainwashed it doesn’t change the fact she is unrepentant and married to ISIS.

She’s not stateless, there’s a place for her in either the Netherlands or Bangladesh.

Caselgarcia · 19/02/2019 20:06

If she'd joined a far right group in the Ukraine that was beheading innocents you would expect her to be on trial in the Ukraine. She will never be tried in Syria will she?

Mistigri · 19/02/2019 20:07

there’s a place for her in either the Netherlands or Bangladesh.

So you're fine with putting Dutch or Bangladeshi people in danger? Nice.

sagradafamiliar · 19/02/2019 20:07

There are some real examples of the hard of thinking here again. Being heartbroken for any victim of terrorism and any innocent person murdered at the hands of IS is completely possible whilst still thinking this is a travesty. Why do some people think they are mutually exclusive?

Budsbegginingspringinsight · 19/02/2019 20:07

First and foremost it needs to be established whether she's commited crimes . I can't believe they're all free in the first place.
Their faces need too be shown too locals whose homes and villages and towns they invaded and raped, plundered and killed... commited genocide in... and make sure they're held to account.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/02/2019 20:08

As far as I am concerned, she rejected her British citizenship when she joined IS.

She doesn’t regret what she did, was unfazed by seeing a severed head, and thinks that the Manchester Arena atrocity was a fair return for bombings in Syria. I have no sympathy for her whatsoever.

TearingUpMyHeart · 19/02/2019 20:08

Wikipedia tells me her mother died of cancer just before she left for syria, age 15.

My feelings about stripping people of citizenship when born and bred here are not related to that - it just shouldn't be an option as far as I am concerned.

But I wonder how come 300 ex fighters return no publicity yet all the focus is on a young girl who, frankly, was underage and bereaved, and didn't do anything while in Syria apart from have babies who died.

Saylav · 19/02/2019 20:09

Her citizenship was revoked under anti terrorism law.

Budsbegginingspringinsight · 19/02/2019 20:09

Agree rain or some families terrosied by her groups invasion or yadizi people whom they tried to murder , genocide.

Genevieva · 19/02/2019 20:10

@KenAdams my understanding is that she was born a Bangladeshi citizen in the UK shortly after her mother arrived. in1999. Her father joined them in 2007. She acquired British citizenship by naturalisation in 2009. Consequently, her primary citizenship is that of Bangladesh, even though she was born in the UK. Bangladesh has a jus sanguinis (right of blood) approach to citizenship.

Saylav · 19/02/2019 20:10

Being a member of a terrorist group carries a sentence of at least 6 years where I'm from.

MadCatEnthusiast · 19/02/2019 20:10

I don't trust the HO's word and reasoning at all.

Budsbegginingspringinsight · 19/02/2019 20:11

Tearing how can we know what's she's done yet.

There's huge jigsaws to piece together first....we don't know what they've done

Saylav · 19/02/2019 20:12

Just being a member carries a heavy sentence.

BerensteinBear · 19/02/2019 20:12

Glad to hear this.
To those saying she should be allowed back, would you be happy having her as a neighbour?

TearingUpMyHeart · 19/02/2019 20:12

That's all well and good, Buds, so how come her citizenship has been revoked?

Mistigri · 19/02/2019 20:12

She will never be tried in Syria will she?

In anywhere other than a failed state the yes: you'd expect her be tried there, and then sent back to the UK after completing her prison sentence.

I'd have no issue with her being prosecuted and imprisoned in Syria as long as the trial was fair. Equally I'd have no problem with her being arrested and prosecuted on her return to the U.K.

Redglitter · 19/02/2019 20:12

Bloody hell, she's a traumatised kid with a baby, I despair

No shes not. Shes a 19 year old adult who has shown absolutely no remorse & thinks the Manchester attack was justified.

I hope the decision to revoke her citizenship stands.

MissKittyBeaudelais · 19/02/2019 20:12

The interview over the weekend was an eye opener. Her body language was to doing her any fa ours. The eye rolling and “he can’t prove I’ve done anything wrong” attitude showed where her real loyalties.

However, I’m at a loss. Had she returned to face possible legal consequences it may have been better than her “out there” in league with a new improved ISIS of the future.
