Can people please tell me your experiences with the implant? I've done a lot of research but just want to hear about it from actual people

I got the implant a month ago, it didnt hurt to put in and the procedure was very quick. My arm hurt for a few days afterwards and now I dont even know its there. I have bled for the last few days but lighter than my usual periods and am keeping track to see how long it goes on for.x

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 19/02/2019 11:14

I had it in for 2 years. Getting it put in and removed. Very little to no pain. Just bruising afterwards.
I had a terrible bleeding pattern. Often bled for 3-4 weeks solid. Had it out early as I couldn't stand it any longer.

Mirena coil all the way

Mine hurt like hell to get put in and removed and it hurt sometimes just randomly.

It also killed my sex drive. Would not recommend.

It also made me bleed for 6 months at a time.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 19/02/2019 11:26

I'm on my third consecutive one, no problems here.

hellhavenofury · 19/02/2019 11:31

On my 4th consecutive inplant now and wouldn't have any other! I only really bleed when its ready to be changed. I have once had to have hormone tablets as it unbalanced a little but in around 10 years I will take that :D

I've just had mine out last week. Had it in for just over a year. had to take the pill with it to stop my constant spotting. It messed with my depression and i would snap over anything. I piled on a lot of weight with it too which set off my eating disorder. Also had a very bad pain in my right breast, if one of my DC touched it when climbing over me etc would be in agony (close to tears) would even be very painful just going about my day. Doctor was starting to suspect breast cancer and since having implant out it instantly stopped. My sister has no problems with it tho but her anxiety is playing up and she wont even consider that might be caused by the implant as I've seen other threads stating this.

PrincessDaff · 19/02/2019 11:48

I got it put in last year. Had it in for a year before asking for it to be taken out in January as I bled constantly through the whole year. I now have the copper coil because I didn't want any hormones for a while and I have had no problems from this really apart from my actual periods being a bit heavier and more painful but I would rather have one period a month than non stop bleeding. My friend has had the implant for 6 years now and she has never had any problems so I think its just different for different people.

Narya · 19/02/2019 11:56

I've had 2 - first one was great but didn't stop my periods, I still got a few days of light bleed every 8 weeks ish.
Second one I got about 10 weeks after giving birth, my periods didn't come back until 3 months after I had it taken out.
Both times I would say it reduced my sex drive a bit, but not drastically. Am about to start ttc again but would absolutely have another implant in the future.

captainpantbeard · 19/02/2019 12:05

I've had one for about 1.5 years and I don't have any periods at all.

I had really horrible painful periods all my life so I am ecstatic.

I had the depot for a few years, also with no periods, but had to change due to my age.

I thought I felt a bit weird for a few weeks after it was put in but I don't know if that was just power of suggestion. I feel fine with it.

Pinkstars2501 · 19/02/2019 13:29

I had 2, took the last one out to to try to conceive.
Best thing ever for me. I have endometriosis so therefore horrendously painful periods, though not especially heavy. It stopped all my periods and the symptoms. I had zero pain and zero bleeding the whole time I had it. Easy to put in, easy to take out (mine didn’t get any tissue growing around it which made it easier).

I do have two little tiny dots of scars where they each were but I have to really look for them.

iklboo · 19/02/2019 13:37

I'm on my 4th. I don't bleed at all and haven't had any problems with it. The last one was a little painful and a bruised a bit but nothing a large glass of wine painkillers couldn't handle.

PrawnOfCreation · 19/02/2019 13:38

Mine made me fat, gave me migraines, I bleed unpredictably and my sex drive died.

It just depends. We used condoms until we decided to conceive our last. Then DH or I will be sterilised.

Heratnumber7 · 19/02/2019 17:00

DD, early 20s is on her 2nd one. No issues, and virtually no, or no bleeding.

outpinked · 19/02/2019 17:03

Hated it, still glare at the little scar from time to time in anger Grin. It was horrible! I had it put it on my period and basically that period did not end until I had it removed. I had to break down crying before the doctor would remove it, they’re heavily reluctant to do it.

I lost my sex drive and also suffered from dryness and acne on top of the constant bleeding. Was so relieved when it was removed and the bleeding stopped within two days.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 19/02/2019 17:09

I had it for two years. First year was ok but did have monthly periods. Second year my pmt went haywire, I put on four stone through emotional eating and bled for over half the month. I paid to have it taken out. Best £180 I ever spent!

amusedbush · 19/02/2019 17:10

My hair was falling out, I was spotty and depressed to the point of suicidal. I gained weight and I bled for four months with no break, and then it switched to one week on, one week off. I had to beg the family planning clinic to remove it after a year.

Alsonification · 19/02/2019 17:28

Myself & dd both on our first one. I got mine because of extremely heavy periods. It’s in about a year. In the first 3 mths periods went very light then they stopped altogether. Haven’t had one since.
In dd, her periods almost stopped but occasionally she’ll get one for maybe a day but hers is only in 6 mths so maybe they’ll stop completely soon. It did flair up her skin a bit though. As a teen she was on roaccutane for acne on her back & it completely cleared up but within a few months of having the implant she got a few spots on her back but not enough to be worried.
