Are there any nice ones. Trying to give up booze but miss my nice red with steak, nice white with cheese etc...

In terms of complementing the food, I can't think of any subs that will be good enough, in which case I'd probably rather have something to cleanse the palate or nice cold water so I could focus on the taste of the food

SpaceCadet4000 · 19/02/2019 01:57

Hate to say it, but I've not found a nice alcoholic wine yet- they all just seem to taste like grape juice.

I make up for it by investing a little extra in my ingredients to add to make the meal more special. Or I'll make myself a really nice breakfast the next day to enjoy without the hangover I'd previously have had Wink

Fontella · 19/02/2019 01:59

I wouldn't bother, they're all rank. Well all the ones I've tried are.

I now just buy the red grape Shloer. Looks like wine in the glass and is a pleasant enough drink.

Agree with @Fontella - I can't have alcohol and have tried almost every non alcoholic drink going. I have soft drinks now, usually Schloer! And it's cheaper Grin

dreichuplands · 19/02/2019 02:25

None of them are nice, af beer is okay as a non beer drinker. Or just sparkling water.

Oorwulliesbucket · 19/02/2019 06:26

Thanks guys, I thought as much, sparkling water it is Smile

I took Bees' Knees alcohol-free wine to work for Xmas Day dinner, and it was nice: bought it in Morrison's.

fussychica · 19/02/2019 08:44

Agree. We find Bottle Green Sparkling presse the most acceptable of these type of drinks. Pomegranate is my favourite. We drink alcohol free beer as our main alcohol free drink. We find Heineken is the best available in the UK, the one's in Spain are excellent with a far bigger choice.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 19/02/2019 08:49

M&S do a nice sparkling Normandy apple juice which is very cider tasting. It reminds me of drinking cider & eating crepes on French holidays!

DuggeesWoggle · 19/02/2019 08:55

How about pomegranate juice? Perhaps topped up with some sparkling water?

I'm pregnant and a friend gave me some Eisberg red. It's ok although definitely NOT wine. Actually it's not great.

I miss wine Sad

Seashell80 · 19/02/2019 09:24

As OP said the bees knees white/rose sparkling is excellent for AF stuff, I also quite like Nosecco-get mine from Co-op🍷

BettyUnderswoob · 19/02/2019 09:42

Never found a nice one, they’re all so sweet and yucky. I don’t like sweet wine either.

I enjoy a Becks Blue AF beer, though!

Asta19 · 19/02/2019 11:09

Yep, I would love a nice alcohol free red but they're all just too sweet.

SileneOliveira · 19/02/2019 11:10

I was off all alcohol for a bit because of the medication I was taking and I thought Nosecco was the best of the bunch.

If you're a beer drinker, DH really likes the 0% Beck's Blue and Bavaria.

feemcgee · 19/02/2019 11:37

Tesco does a nice sparkling one - either white or rose. Apparently, Freixnet do a good one too, but I've yet to find it.

HelloDoris · 19/02/2019 12:48

Aldi do a sparkling one called Zero point zero, it's reasonable as in it's not entirely made to taste like sugar and at £2.50 it's not a bad price at all.

The very best of the bunch in my opinion is the Torres Natureo

www.waitrosecellar.com/low-alcohol/torres-natureo-red-859418?gclid=CjwKCAiA767jBRBqEiwAGdAOr8hRmq3wF4f7-3_PWA73x-ZxNgejqZwKIOJDYIkSA23nrMDkt4gLjRoC1QMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

And that's if you squint your eyes and hold your breath, most non alcoholic wine is pretty grim unless you liked drinking awful pink sweet shit when on alcohol.

There are plenty of non alcoholic beers/lagers that are delicious, (Becks Blue not included), amazon do amazing packs that you can buy which have a range of flavours and styles. I favour a German NA particularly a wheat beer but it's all personal choice.

Beer Hawk www.beerhawk.co.uk/browse-beers/browse-by-style/low-alcohol-beer are good for selctions.

thenightsky · 19/02/2019 12:50

Rawson's Retreat (sparkling version) is the best of the bunch if its dryness you are after.

stilllearnin · 19/02/2019 14:05

My fella who drinks every day shared a bottle or Rawson retreat red with me last night. It’s ok. I like AF substitutes but nothing ever has that morish effect because that’s the alcohol working on you.

Rawson is not sweet it’s like a very savoury red grape juice. It’ll do for now.

Oorwulliesbucket · 19/02/2019 19:02

I hate sweet wine, couldn't even drink a rose so maybe not for me, but definitely going to try some of these.

careermumofone · 19/02/2019 19:18

I’ve tried most of them and I think the Sainsbury’s taste the difference 0.5% one is the best as it’s the least sweet. The new Freixenet alcohol free ones are decent too

JontyDoggle37 · 19/02/2019 19:19

Asda do a good Prosecco sub called Nosecco

CherryPavlova · 19/02/2019 19:20

I don’t understand non alcoholic wine. I’d rather have ginger beer.

BettyUnderswoob · 19/02/2019 20:09

I tried the Friexenet one, because I love alcoholic Freixenet.

It is, sadly, sweet and horrible. Just like sparkling grape juice.

dragonsfire · 19/02/2019 20:10

Bees knees from Morrison’s and nonsecco from Sainsbury’s also like non alcoholic kopperberg cider

BroomstickOfLove · 19/02/2019 20:13

Alcohol free beer is nice. Alcohol free wine isn't.
