I've told DH that someone here can help us with this! Where to go?

DH and I want to take the DSs somewhere impressive this summer. Costa Rica fits the bill perfectly. But it is sooo expensive once you are there according to the reviews Confused. Where else could we go that delivers a similar tropical, volcanic, flora and fauna-filled adventure? Don't mind it being a bit pricey to get to, as long as it is cheaper that CR to do things/eat etc once we are there.

Please can people help me out here?! I said MN would know GrinWink

Two friends have recently been to Cape Verde with their families and raved about it?

lottielady · 18/02/2019 22:08

Mexico?

FogCutter · 18/02/2019 22:09

Borneo
Indonesia

Malaysia?

I went to Sabah and Sarawak in Borneo and loved it. Recommend climbing mount Kinabalu and going upriver

Hawaii ?

Malaysia. The flights are expensive, but once you are there it is so cheap. The weather is lovely and hot ( thunderstorms in afternoon but hey are short lived). It is very easy to get around, English is very widely spoken. I would spend some time in Kuala Lumpur and then spend the other part of the holiday at a coastal resort like langkawi or Penang.

Not sure if it's cheaper there or not but Belize would likely work too

What about the Azores? I’ve wanted to go for ages.

When DD travelled in this region she took the bus from Nicaragua to Panama and didn't bother stopping because of the cost. She explained that it gets a lot of tourists and which pushes up prices. Columbia has a lot to offer.

Fabulous! You've given us lots of places to investigate. I have no idea what places like Indonesia, Malaysia and Borne are like. I've not even heard of the Azores and Cape Verde! Are these places safe for travelling with young teens?

The Azores and Cabo Verde/Cape Verde are ultra safe. The Azores are Portuguese. Cabo Verde is an independent country with a Portuguese background. Both are off the coast of North Africa, I think they are part of the same archipelago.

I would avoid langkawi... been there didn't like it and that was me and DH without children. We have Malaysian friends and they suggested places on the mainland.

Bali... Indonesia. Lots to do... very cheap imo good value for money. Most bookings are private villas with own pool. We did it in 2017... had breakfast every morning but then went out to eat during the days. Very cheap. Didn't do much else because we had very young DC at the time; but I was told you can visit temples etc.

Somewhere in the Caribbean? Like the lesser Antilles islands.
