I can’t work out how to measure for new curtains!

Try this

Measure full width of window x top of track to wherever you want to finish - windowsill, floor? - as a starting point, then it will vary fullness by the type of heading you choose.

It’s all down to the width, depends on the curtain fabric and the method of hanging. If it’s a really heavy fabric, eyelet on a pole, maybe 1.5 times.

Personally, I’d never go for less than double. If silk or something really fine I’d go 2.5.

Meanness looks really bad.
