Jumping The Shark

When did your favourite show jump the shark? I was really enjoying Outlander but have struggled with season four. I find Rodger controlling, Jamie and Claire do not act like people in their late 40s and everyone they have ever met has stumbled into Fraser’s ridge.
When did you stop loving your favourite show?

I actuallly preferred Outlander once they jumped the shark! All that dull stuff in Paris was snooozzzzee.

Now they are swash buckling about and meeting George Washington and getting involved in history and snogging a lot less thank god.

I love the characters and are happy to have them return. I want more of Scotland though.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

'Dawn'

No

BestFriendsWithSky · 18/02/2019 19:26

The first one that spring to mind was on criminal minds when Prentiss came back. It made the whole world they created seem less real somehow!

Yes where the fuck did Dawn come from? Hmm

QuestionableMouse · 18/02/2019 19:29

The good place. Can't remember exactly what happened but one episode had normal stuff then the next was a total charge and it just felt so disconnected.

I'm struggling with outlander too. Watched four or five episodes and just can't get interested in it.

minkies11 · 18/02/2019 19:30

The Walking Dead since......God at least season 4 Sad
Second Dawn in Buffy. Fucking waste of space and whingy.
AHS since season 6.
TV getting more and more rubbish or I'm getting old and cranky Grin

DrMidgeryMargery · 18/02/2019 19:31

Slight spoiler ahead...

I liked the France bit of Outlander - I can’t bear Brianna and Roger though so I’ve really gone off this series.

My other favourite is The Walking Dead. It could be said that it jumped the shark years ago, but it definitely has now that Andrew Lincoln has left. It’s limping on for now but nowhere near as good.

MamaRaisingBoys · 18/02/2019 19:32

Yep, when Dawn appeared in Buffy

Thatsnotmyotter · 18/02/2019 19:33

Parks and Rec. The last season (maybe the last two actually) was painful.

SimoneStrasser · 18/02/2019 19:36

The last series of Luther.

JasonGideon · 18/02/2019 19:41

The episode of Parks and Recs when it was Andy’s TV show was unwatchable for me.

Bluestitch · 18/02/2019 19:41

Grey's Anatomy- probably the plane crash followed by the nonsense where they became millionaires and bought the hospital.

Riverdale- every episode! The hardened middle aged bikers answering to a 16 year old, the Sheriff and the Mayor reporting to teenagers and telling them everything, the Gargoyle King(!!) But I still love it so much.

The Wire- pains me because this is the best show ever but the fake serial killer in season 5 was ridiculous.

Bluestitch · 18/02/2019 19:46

Also Friends- The One Where Joey speaks French. Arghh they made his character so beyond stupid and a couple of episodes later he was asking a stuffed toy for advice.

QueenOfCatan · 18/02/2019 19:52

Bones, after they finally slept together. Got boring from that point and the giving birth in a stable was the final straw for me!

MightyDuck · 18/02/2019 19:57

Criminal minds - After they fired Thomas Gibson (Hotch)

Buffy - The whole Dawn and then Buffy shagging Spike thing

donquixotedelamancha · 18/02/2019 19:57

Happy Days was never the same after that episode where Fonzie went water skiing.

BartonHollow · 18/02/2019 19:58

LOST after they left the island

That ENTIRE last season was dreadful

Also, from the same stable Alias when the network made them strip it back and reboot it for Season 4 and so it never properly followed through with ongoing plotlines from Season 3 which then created gaping ridiculous plot holes - it's really worth watching though if you stop at Season 3

Greys jumped the shark with the plane crash but it didn't fully lose me til the exit of Yang

AuntieOxident · 18/02/2019 19:59

I thought the whole point of Riverdale was to jump every shark in the lake!

BartonHollow · 18/02/2019 20:01

Any Criticism of Parks And Rec which isn't of the first series merits a :

HOW VERY DARE YOU INDEED?

Grin

Heroes is another but it was really killed by the writers strike of that second year, after which it never recovered.

Bluestitch · 18/02/2019 20:06

Haha Sweetwater River will probably have an influx of killer sharks next.

PuppyMonkey · 18/02/2019 20:06

Orange is the New Black when they did that entire series about the sodding hostage taking, prisoner takeover bollocks. Bloody awful.

MayFayner · 18/02/2019 20:27

Not my favourite show but SATC when Carrie dated The Russian and went to Paris.

WhiteNancy · 18/02/2019 20:32

GrinGrinGrin

Agree about Parks and Rec.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 18/02/2019 20:42

For me it was the Friends episode where Rachel put meat in a trifle (such an easy mistake to make [hmm )] it was sooooo cringey and bad !

Stefoscope · 18/02/2019 23:31

Suits...Season 6 onwards is just awful. They were starting to overegg the Mike and Rachel big romance storyline, so I was hopeful once they were written out they could move the show in a different (better) direction. Now it just feels like a parody of itself and is essentially a battle of who 'shat the bed' today and who will make 'named partner' this week.
