do you have to pay for your garden waste collection? or will you?

I am contemplating paying.

I think it's fair enough to have it as an extra charge - not everyone has a garden or needs a garden waste collection. If it was "free" the council tax would just go up for everyone to cover it.

Ours is included in council tax & collected fortnightly. Food waste is also included & collected weekly. Black bins fortnightly. Paper sack, cardboard sack, plastic sack & green box (metal/glass) all collected fortnightly, alternating 2 each week.

I wonder if we will soon have to pay like lots of others, though. We rarely have any garden waste so I'd probably take it to the tip instead.

@HoraceCope Are you in the Wealden area by any chance? I am and had my leaflet through this morning about the £50 charge from July.

We have a small back and front garden and usually fill our brown bin once a month in the spring / summer, and barely at all in the winter. Which basically means about 6 or 7 collections a year at a cost of £7/8 a time under the new scheme, which seems a bit steep but I'll probably pay it as I know otherwise neither me or DH will want to bother with the regular tip runs and cars full of grass cuttings in the summer months.

We don’t have garden waste collection, I’d happily pay for it to be introduced.

We pay around £100 a year for two bins which are collected fortnightly all year round. One bin would be about £60 I think.

Worth it to us even if all we did was get rid of grass clippings and leaves.

Actually thinking about it two bins are a bot more than £100. £125 or so maybe? Anyway second one is at a slight discount to having just one.

Are we the only area that don’t offer any service at all for garden waste?

I pay £35 per year via one-off payment on council website for combined food and garden waste collection every week all year round. Prior to this year the same service was included in council tax.

Ours is collected fortnightly free of charge in a mixed bin of biodegradable waste (food was etc.)

A neighbouring authority is just introducing an annual charge of £36 so suspect our council will see how that goes before introducing something similar.

We pay and have done for quite a few years it’s about £40 per year per bin and they collect once a fortnight .

We haven't had to pay as of yet, though I'm sure they'll introduce it soon. Brown bin (garden waste) goes on the same day as green bin (general waste), which is every other week, alternating with blue bin (recycling).

About £50 per year here - collected every fortnight except Christmas. I do a lot of gardening, and the bin is pretty full most weeks, so well worth it.

We've had to pay for a few years. i don't bother with it. We've got a small lawn and we just compost the clippings. Food waste still gets collected for free.

No, i wouldnt pay. We have a weekly collection but the only stuff we put in is perennial weeds. I compost everything else, i take it all to the allotment each week.

We pay £40 a year up front. Avoids a car full of spiders. ~~shudder~~

£60, paid in one lump. Fortnightly collection with two missed over Christmas. No food waste collection. Household items like furniture now £25 per item.
Roads full of potholes, pavements crumbling, no winter gritting, no street cleaning, no litter bins, no visible police, no extra help for children struggling at school, no youth club or Sure Start.
What is central government doing with what they've Saved on local council grants?

Ours is free, but I would pay, we can fill 2 bins a fortnight. It hasn't started back up so I had to do multiple trips to the tip this weekend.

When I was growing up, and rubbish was collected in sacks you had to buy special green bags from the council, so the idea of charging isn't unusual to me.

We also still have weekly bin collections so fairly fortunate.

We pay - it is a large wheely bin collected fortnightly (most of the year) and it is a one-off payment of £48, you get a sticker to put on the bin when you pay.

We have three wheelie bins - one for general (non-recyc) rubbish, one for recyclables, one garden waste. Kitchen and kerbside caddies for food waste (this one is collected weekly, the rest are fortnightly).

We have been paying since June 2017 but our council is getting rid of the green fee and increasing council tax instead. Loads of people objected to the charge and shoved their green waste in with the general waste. I didn't mind the £40 fee.

£39 per year. We pay. How would we get rid of tree cuttings, grass etc otherwise? I think it is worth it as we have large garden with lots of trees and grass.
