Strange virus - high temps but no other symptoms?

I’ve seen at least one other post about this but just wondering what people’s experiences are.

10 days ago one of my twins spiked a high temperature (39.1) with no other symptoms. Through the night it happened again and was a struggle to get it to come back down. For the week since he’s had one or two high temperatures on most days, although a couple of days he’s had none at all. Last night he went into the 38s in the middle of the night.

Took him to nursery this morning (he also went twice last week) as he seemed absolutely fine - a couple of hours later they called me in a panic because his temp was 40.4 and he was drowsy. By the time we got there his temp had come down but he was still sleepy and we brought him home. He’s now napping after dozing on and off all morning which isn’t like him.

The fevers and the lethargy are the only symptoms. I checked the NHS guidelines and he doesn’t have any of the symptoms they say you should be concerned about. In between these random spikes he seems totally fine, and nursery say that lots of the kids there are having the same thing.

I’m going to make him a doctors appointment for tomorrow to be safe but I’m sure they’ll say it’s just viral, but it’s been going on for ages and just when I think it’s getting better it happens again.

Those who’ve had this, how long did it last? His twin has had a few high temps during the week but not as high or as frequent.
