If I make myself sick will it hurt the baby?

Hello, I am 10 weeks pregnant and feel like I have a permanent hangover. I’m not actually sick but feel sick most of the time.
Yesterday I put my fingers down my throat and made myself sick because I couldn’t take the feeling much longer. I figured if I was going to be sick naturally then helping things along would t make a difference.
Now I’m worried I might have done damage to the baby? I have to wait another 2 weeks for my scan aswell.

If vomiting hurt foetuses, practically no babies would be born. Don't worry. And sorry about the nausea, it's horrible isn't it.

No, it won’t hurt the baby at all, but it’s not good for you. See your midwife for ways to get rid of morning sickness.

Thank you. Just needed a bit of reassurance. I’m not planning on making it a regular occurrence as to be honest I’m not sure it helped much as I still felt awful after, but I feel calmer knowing I wouldn’t of done it harm
Thank you

No it won’t have harmed the baby but it’s really not a habit you should be getting into. You might find this nausea stage will ease very soon, but in the meantime there’s lots you can try to ease it. Like having a ginger biscuit or two before getting up in the mornings, or I found jelly babies was the thing for me!

If it really is unbearable though do ask your midwife or GP.

No OP the baby will be fine. I resorted to this a couple of times when pregnant because I was just so depressed with the sickness the whole way through both pregnancies. By the time I got to about 7 months I would sit and cry because there was just no break from it. I felt terrible guilt the few times I did do it, but both babies were absolutely fine. I was told to buy sports drinks like Lucozade sport and sip through the day, didn't help me much but it might be worth a try.

Thank you. It’s awful. I didn’t have it like this in my other children either (who don’t know I’m of yet so trying to hide it) they keep asking me for food that’s smelly and I want to cry. “Mummy’s bolognaise” was their request yesterday that tipped me over the edge. Is it unreasonable to get a toddler and small child to live off toast and crisps 🙈

Not unreasonable at all, whatever gets you through - they’ll survive on bland food for a while! 😁

Stylinit · 18/02/2019 09:57

Poor you it is miserable.

You won’t have harmed the baby (looking at my very healthy 4yo currently dancing around the kitchen who made me vomit multiple times a day for the full 9 months) but it’s not good for you and ime of pg sickness probably won’t have helped either. That’s one of the things I found hardest actually, the utter unrelenting nature of the nausea which wouldn’t ever abate even straight after vomiting.

I hope it passes for you soon. Most people start feeling better around 12-14 weeks so you are nearly there.

littlemissalwaystired · 18/02/2019 10:00

I'd bypass the midwife and go straight to your GP for some anti-sickness meds if you feel you need themSmile midwives can't prescribe things like that.

Shookethtothecore · 18/02/2019 10:04

Thanks everyone. It didn’t make much difference so won’t be happening again. I’m hoping it gets better at the 12 week stage, not just for me but for my other children as I’m rubbish and the weather will get nicer soon and I want to be able to do more with them.
Smells set me off something awful. I’m currently sat sniffing a bottle of perfume as it’s giving me relief. Do the anti sickness pills work if your not actually sick?
