Anyone else hate the park?!

Kids have been haring round the park for about 90 minutes, I’m getting cold and want to go home but they’re having fun and have made some new friends so won’t go just yet.

I’ve onlu got 21% battery though so they’ve got till it dies Grin

I can’t be the only one surely?! It’s different in the summer when I can laze in the sun while they run around.

I don't love it. It's cold, it's often wet, I am forced to crouch in a 'house' under the climbing frame and pretend to be the tiger who came to tea, which isn't very interesting. It is sometimes a better option than staying in the house listening to them argue, and it creates less mess in the house.

CottonSock · 17/02/2019 14:36

I like it in summer!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 17/02/2019 14:38

That’s true. Mine are 7, 10 and 10 and in that age where they don’t really want or need my input but I don’t want them coming here on their own.

Right now I can deal with it as it's only slightly cold, and DH is playing so I can stare vacantly at my phone. When I have to join in with games I don't quite understand, on equipment built for people 1/3 of my size, I like it much less.

Decormad38 · 17/02/2019 14:46

I’ve never really got parks! I grew up in the Lake District, moved to a city and everyone was going on about the lovely park. I thought its....alright! I guess my earlier experiences ruined parks.

PurplePepperEater · 17/02/2019 14:47

Ooo I’d love to sit on a park with a hot brew being ignored for a couple of hours while the kids play - I dream of them being a bit older and independent
Unfortunately mine are all very young and need a lot of help on and off equipment, being pushed on the swings, help to push either end of the see saw as they’re too little to make it move etc etc
It’s a bloody workout I tell you!

I hated parks when DS was little. Took him to them, obviously, but couldn’t wait to get home.

Crunchymum · 17/02/2019 16:05

Mine are 6,4 and 1. Love that I can send the older ones off to play now without having to supervise every move.

Of course they like to hang around me like flies round shit and I have to threaten to take them home before they actually go off and play by themselves Grin

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 17/02/2019 19:29

We didn’t even go to the playground today, they just hung around the skate park bit and played a game. By bum got cold sitting on the concrete bench but the fresh air has done us all good I dare say.

You need thermals,a flask of tea or soup, biscuits,a good book and a blanket/large scarf to sit on. I once took an empty hot water bottle and a thermos of boiling water!

Moominfan · 17/02/2019 19:41

Mines only two so it's fairly short visits. Beats being at home with him bulldozing around

MunchyMunchkin · 17/02/2019 19:42

I like the ones with a nice cafe to visit at the end!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 17/02/2019 22:19

@retainertrainer ha I wasn’t forward thinking enough for that!

I used to read a lot. Nod and smile and make "mmhmm" noises when the "look! Mum, look! Look!" Was shouted across the park.

Pushing swings was the most dull

SmarmyMrMime · 17/02/2019 22:37

In all the dreams of parenthood, I never expected that I could hate pushing swings so much.

My DCs love parks and it's a great way to burn energy by going feral and pretending you're in the Famous Five, but goodness supervising it is so dull! No wonder everyone else seems to go with a gang or at least one partner. Where do they hire these spare people from as I always seem to be the only sad, lonley bastard MNing away on my own to fill the empty hours.

Now running kit and a park on my own is something else...
