Buying a new bed and so many options. What would you look for?

Channing Tatum would be nice.

TwitterQueen1 · 16/02/2019 22:06

Bruce Springsteen

We have a super king, and will never go back.
Ditto for the Tempur mattress.

The bed itself is wood, with slats and space underneath so it can "breathe" (you don't flip/turn a Tempur)

Spend the majority of the money on the mattress, it's the most important thing! And get the best one you can afford.

I have an ottoman storage bed and my house would be a shit tip without it. If I don't use it weekly it goes under the bed!
Also if you have a partner and the space, a king/super king makes so much difference.
I'd look at styles that don't go out of fashion e.g not 'trends'. Crushed velvet was stylish when I bought my bed, DP thought it was cool but I was against!

A comfortable mattress.

More what not to have - my parents have a lovely bed but it has little round knobs at the corners and they are metal which are incredibly painful to bang into.

1000 thread count cotton sheets from Dunelm, heaven!

SpringForEver · 16/02/2019 22:18

Comfort. A firm mattress with no memory foam, a proper mattress, sprung and well made. Mine is a Hobbs, not cheap but the most comfortable one I have ever had.

An attractive bedframe, not a fashionable one, something that will last and work with most decors.

I should have said I currently have a superking size but since i’m single I want to downsize as it’s a lot of washing and faff for just me. I’m prepared to pay quite a bit for the right one. Just not sure if I should be looking for pocket sprung or memory foam or what.

I’m currently sleeping on a memory foam Emma Mattress. It’s the tits.

Whatdoyouknowwhenyouknownowt · 16/02/2019 22:32

A slanted headboard, makes it way more comfortable.

A very, very good mattress. One that suits you. Try lots.

GoFiguire · 16/02/2019 22:33

Clean sheets

MrsChollySawcutt · 16/02/2019 22:39

Super king size really good quality mattress preferably with a spring edge divan. Mine is an extremely pricy vi-spring and I love it.

AtSea1979 · 16/02/2019 22:42

I’ve just been on the dreams website to look at the Hobbs (didn’t have it) and tempur and found that Mumsnet has their own mattress it’s a thousand pounds and doesn’t seem overly special!

I had a pocket sprung with lots of springs mattress which was divine. Every part of my body was supported. Some people (like me) don’t get on with memory foam if they get hot at night.

why100000 · 16/02/2019 23:20

I have the cheaper mumsnet mattress (about £800) and it’s totally wonderful. It’s the medium firm “spirit” mattress. I am paying for it in instalments interest free for the next 3 years Grin.

That and this bed from Feather and Black (which I don’t think they sell any more) make me totally happy every night.

(Not a photo of my actual bed).

Whatdoyouknowwhenyouknownowt · 16/02/2019 23:21

Yeah, I kept reading reviews about mattresses as good as a vispring...in the end, I tried one & haggled to get it for less money but worth every single penny.

NicoAndTheNiners · 16/02/2019 23:30

I've just ordered a Smeatons pocket sprung mattress with a latex topper built in. It was a compromise because I wanted memory foam and dh wanted a normal mattress.

From testing it in the shop I reckon it was as comfy as the twice the price Tempur mattress.

Bloke in the shop spoke highly of Smeatons for quality.
