Got to be 20 years old at least. Vague feeing the characters were Irish/had Irish names.
Basic premise was female main character was in love with her male best friend, who was away studying to be a priest. Not sure if they were at the same university but many descriptions of how she visited him a lot and tried to get him to change his mind about becoming a priest.
