Where has my sense of taste gone?

I've been really ill with the flu this week. I've eaten very little other than toast and tea and the occasional bowl of cereal since Sunday.
I'm starting to feel a bit better and Yvonne appetite has improved.
I've noticed though that I really can't taste anything.
It's strange because although I've been sneezing A LOT I haven't had classic head cold symptoms or a bunged up nose.
Has anyone had this?

Sorry - no idea where that Yvonne came from. Hmm

I had flu last month and lost my senses of taste and smell for 4 or 5 days. Had a cough but no sore throat/stuffy nose. Was very odd!

90% of what we think of as a sense of taste is actually smell. I've had the current five-week fucking variably awful cold, and I've just today started to be able to taste things again properly - it was quite a surprise, I'd started to forget what tasty food was! It was just sausages and roast veg, but I could distinguish every morsel. Bloody good thing they were nice sausages and nice veg :)

So yeah, even though you can breathe okay, your sense of smell may still be knocked out by inflammation.

Yup had this - 2 weeks in and I'm not 100% on tastebuds.

Thanks for the replies.
I really need to start eating a bit more but my appetite is low and nothing tastes good.
I did the ultimate test with cheese and onion crisps that I usually love and ... nothing.
