Ideas for a “moving in” hamper

Wingingthis · 15/02/2019 22:33

My sister and boyfriend are moving into their first flat in a couple of weeks so I thought I’d suprise them with a moving in hamper! Things to help them on the day/a few nice bits.

I’ve though of so far:

• tea and milk
• a couple of nice mugs
• scissors
• a candle
• toilet paper

Can you help me brainstorm?? :)

Muji do a little screwdriver set with 8 different heads and handle for less than a tenner. One of the best things I ever bought when I got my first house many moons ago and still going strong. They still sell it.

Radiator key

Put a few LED light bulbs in too. And a magnetic note pad for the fridge door.

Tin opener
Bottle opener
Bottle wine/beers
Tea towels

Takeaway menus!
Bottle of bubble bath (the muscle rest flavours)
Fluffy towels
Stanley knife.
Pens and a notepad.
A throw or some cushions. First night in, we sat on the floor of the hall way eating Chinese, as we had no sofas, the table wasn't set up nor was bed.
Bin bags. It's amazing how much rubbish you bring, even if you tried hard not to pack rubbish...

Multi charger from Poundland. They’ll likely misplace their phone chargers during the move.

Candle lighter/matches (I prefer the candle lighters more reliable)
Tea towels
Hand towel (for after going the loo)
Can opener
Veggie knife
Allen keys
Adjustable wrench
Lightbulbs in a mix of fittings & sizes
Wind up torch
Wind up radio (for entertainment that won't drain the phone battery & eat up data until they get wifi sorted)

If they have not been living in their own places before then cupboard staples like salt, vinegar, herbs, a few spices, ketchup. mayo etc.

tin opener, corkscrew and a screwdriver.

then something that is more of a treat.

Happilyacceptingcookies · 16/02/2019 06:00

Disinfectant wipes
Cup to hold toothbrushes and toothpaste, always an issue when first moving in and bathrooms are in a questionable state
Toilet rolls
Air freshener
Nice hot drink sachets, Nescafe do capucinno etc

BarbaraofSevillle · 16/02/2019 06:09

Wine or beer if they drink, to go with the takeaway.

Angie169 · 16/02/2019 06:47

Pot noodles, frozen ready meals or if you can make them a meal that's easy to heat ( m'wave) paper plates, plastic /wood knives and forks. Kitchen roll.

InProgress · 16/02/2019 06:58

A kettle
