Is this too high?

I have a temp of 39.7. I clearly feel ill and am lying in bed and shivering a lot but am still functioning. Sore throat. Ear ache - neither too severe. No rashes. Eating and drinking some and weeing normally. Fast heart rate around 100BPM. I’ve not taken nurofen so far as read that can prolong the illness.....

Just wondering if I need to be seeing someone about this? I’ve googled extensively and some resources seem to want you seen at 39.5 and some say only if other worrying symptoms.

Any thoughts?

Take paracetamol to take your temp down. That's the first thing they'd say if you were seen anyway. See how you are after that.

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 15/02/2019 16:39

Have you taken paracetamol?

AfterSchoolWorry · 15/02/2019 16:40

Get paracetamol into you quickly.

If you're feeling ill take some pain relief

dementedpixie · 15/02/2019 16:43

Medication shouldn't be taken just to reduce a temperature but as you have a sore throat/ ear then you should take something to relieve pain

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 15/02/2019 16:43

I wouldn't take paracetamol for a fever as a stand alone symptom but if you are feeling unwell generally then the advice is still to take paracetamol to help ease the symptoms. See how your fever is 30 minutes after taking a dose.

Nurofen taken. Will see if it brings temp down

See if the nurofen helped and if not then definitely call your gp. That's quite a high temp and anything over 39.5 should be checked by a doctor like you said. Over 40 is particularly worrying so keep an eye on it.

It’s been an hour now and it’s come down marginally. I’m really sweating though rather than freezing cold so assume it will come down further.

This is delightful
