Should I paint my bedroom white?

Just that really. Bedroom is currently a magnolia (unchanged since we moved in). The carpet is brown. I hate both colours. The room is under the eaves but is quite bright as we have a glass door leading in to a balcony.

We have a mix of antiquey brown and white furniture. So, what colour would you paint it? And what colour carpet?

My whole house is white, I love it so much. Although in my old house my bedroom was a very pale Chinese jade colour which was very calming.

I can't bear white. Our first house was an ex rental and the owner had flung white paint everywhere and laid brown carpet. I thought it was nice. But it felt so cold and empty and like a soulless rental. When we started decorating I liked it much more, it felt different. I can deal with off whites but white white is just too much for me. I quite like colours with nice hues, partial to Farrow and Ball. We have elephants breath, mizzle, sulking room pink and old school white in the rooms we have done.

Do it white, because then you can live with it and see what would work, and if you only leave it a few weeks, you'd be able to use the white layer as primer and won't need so many coats of something else.

I would probably choose something pale blue/blue grey in a room where you have brown tones, as I think it makes them look less heavy. Or, we just painted our bedroom a sort of sage green, and it looks amazing against antique dark-wood furniture. It does definitely suck the light out, though, so you'd have to think how much you mind about that?

I have no idea about carpets as we've always rented and you can't change them, but I think I would keep it quite neutral. Or if you can noise-proof it and have wood underneath, I'd have the beams with a lovely huge rug over most of the floor, and then you could be bold with the colour and maybe have something in red (with the grey-blue walls)?

Ooh, though, that pale jade colour sounds very nice too!

Sounds similar to ours
All painted white , save will behind bed which is Sail White ( very pale grey )

The carpet is blue., it’s good , painting the ceiling ( which goes up to the eaves ) made such a difference
White is the way

I would opt for an off white with a sage undertone. White rooms are great. They look so clean and can look very elegant if done well.

White walls, bedding, etc is really calming!

We used deluxe white cotton, a lovely clean just off white but not cold at all. Timeless was way too creamy/pinky for our rooms so I’d recommend getting a couple of testers to try out different whites, they can really look different in different lights.
