Fragrance Gift

My good friend is turning 30. She is very much into beauty and fragrance and when I asked what she would like she said she would like a new perfume- but she wants a 'suprise'. I know she likes trying new scents just I've no idea! What do you think smells good and would make a nice 'suprise' gift?

Oh god that’s such a personal thing! Any idea what she normally wears? Then you can find one with similar ‘notes’ and ‘tomes’ etc!

BlueMerchant · 15/02/2019 12:43

I know she likes the blue apple shaped Lolita lempkicka? and she loves Chopard wish. I just want something that she'll love but that will be a 'suprise'.

Expensive (£95), and London, but an afternoon making her own perfume means she ends up with something she really wants (and may help her narrow down what she likes).

4160Tuesdays.

Yeah, I can't afford it either.

I can't afford that unfortunately but great idea! I'm looking at up to £50.

Why not get a sample set from 4160T and add a voucher, then she could purchase a bottle of the one she loves? Then she gets to try multiple options (you can pick & choose your own, it doesn't have to be a one of their suggested sets) and still have a bottle.

keepingbees · 15/02/2019 12:54

What about one of those perfume sets that have several miniatures in?
My favourite perfume is Lady Million by Paco Rabanne, when I first smelt it someone was testing it in the shop and the whole queue commented on how nice it was, it's quite a good all rounder. I don't know the ones you mentioned so no idea if it would be her style of smell though.

ThatLibraryMiss · 15/02/2019 12:59

Having read your second post, you could look on Fragrantica.com to see what ingredients are in the scents she likes. It very helpfully also shows what's similar, and if you click on each ingredient in the perfume pyramid section it'll take you to a page about that ingredient. Scroll down and it lists (some of the) other scents it's used in. Some of the reviews are helpful but some are total wank. (Exhibit A: "In time, the most handsome tweeded woman arrives in blonde chignon, and an unexpected, winsome neroli kisses her glacial hand... In farthest drydown the narcotic flowers and the poultry seasoning get married..." )

Lolita Lempicka
Chopard Wish

Thanks for your ideas. I'll check out fragrantica see if there are similar notes in the ones she likes that maybe point me in the direction of something. If not I'll positively savour the reviews anyway Grin

I've looked on fragrantica. I've decided either Le Petit robe noir or Angel. Although with Angel being a love/hate it's likely the former!

ive always only ever worn opium but for christmas my Oh bought me dior jadore its a very pretty smell

BlueMerchant · 15/02/2019 14:51

Ooh I personally love Opium. Never tried j'adore. My friend seems to have a different style to me when it comes to fragrance though which makes it difficult.

I would get a sample set.
Atelier Cologne do a very reasonable one, as do Juliette Has a Gun.
I'm not struck on many of the ACs and don't like any of the JHAGs (only 2 4160s) but at least you're not blowing all your budget on one thing.

Go and smell both Angel and PRN before buying. PRB is very very sweet and "pink" smelling. (on the Perfumista thread we call it a pink minger) teenage girls love it.

HaventGotAllDay · 15/02/2019 14:58

That should say (and only 2 of the 4160s- also very sweet and fruity generally, so not me)

Donnadon346 · 15/02/2019 15:44

Be very careful buying Angel for someone else, although it's beautiful on some it's vulgar on others. Like you say it's so love and hate and when you first spray it it's so overpowering

keepingbees · 15/02/2019 15:48

Angel is very sweet so I would only buy if she likes sweet perfumes. Ghost is along the same lines but not as sweet

FireCrotch · 15/02/2019 16:15

Why don't you both go shopping together. Get her to try some and then you can surprise her with one she likes. I don't think I can trust myself with smells. I followed this woman into the toilets to find out what perfume she had on and it was Cliff Richard. I couldn't bring myself to buy it. Grin

BlueMerchant · 15/02/2019 17:35

Grin I need Cliff Richard just to see her face when she opens it!

BlueMerchant · 15/02/2019 17:43

I may sound really thick but what's the 4160. I've been googling. Come up with printer ink and furnitureConfused

HaventGotAllDay · 15/02/2019 18:46

4160 Tuesdays. Indi perfume house. I'm not keen tbh, as I said very sweet and fruity and a lot smell to me like your toddler chucked all your perfumes together but they do get a lot of love on the Perfumista threads.

BlueMerchant · 15/02/2019 18:48

ThanksSmile

Cliff Richard perfume? Shock

BlueMerchant · 16/02/2019 15:08

I googled it Grin. He has a quite a collection! Love the sound of 'Miss You Nights'...

FireCrotch · 16/02/2019 15:11

Cliffs perfume (although he missed out on calling them Cliff's Sniffs) are £100 on Amazon

BlueMerchant · 16/02/2019 15:27

'Cliff's Sniffs' makes me queasy.
£100. Wow.
