I didn’t realise she was sick. So sad she was no age really. I adored Small Island.

Ah, that's so sad. I loved Small Island too. The Long Song as well.

Oh no Sad

Very sad to hear this.

Such an important writer. And how sad that she didn’t live to see her work on stage at the National Theatre.

MadisonAvenue · 15/02/2019 10:47

That is so sad, and she was no age. I've really loved her writing.

Just came on to say this.Sad

Such a huge loss. She should have had so many good years in front of her.

I loved Small Island, and have The Long Song recorded to watch with full attention.

longwayoff · 15/02/2019 10:56

That's very sad, no age at all. RIP Andrea.

Echobelly · 15/02/2019 10:57

Oh no, she really was one of my favourite contemporary authors. What a terrible shame, she was so talented.

ShadyLady53 · 15/02/2019 12:03

I’m so gutted about this. She was my favourite author. Can’t believe that she’s gone and there’ll be no more new books from her - she was such an amazing writer and seemingly very vivacious, intelligent and courageous as a person.

It's very sad. I saw an Imagine programme about her not that long ago - I guess when The Long Song was on television - and she mentioned being ill then. She did a couple of readings at a bookshop I ran, years ago when her first two novels were published; she was just terrific, very nice to meet and engaging with the audience.

62....so young

A landmark talent, for sure

viques · 15/02/2019 19:45

I was sad to read this. She was such a wonderful story teller. Very sorry for her family, she has died so young.

SnowBambino · 15/02/2019 19:55

I was also so sad to hear the news today. RIP amazing lady. Such a wonderful author. I discovered her years ago as part of a ‘Postcolonial London’ literature module at uni during my English degree, and have loved her books ever since.
