Argh, 3 year old just eaten off chicken

My three year old discovered my fridge raiders, decided he wanted some, and I let him as a morning snack (been up hours already )
Anyway, they were only bought yesterday and I just gave them to him. He's eaten a few chunks, I moved the plate and thought they smelt totally off. Tasted, right enough off. They went out of date yesterday. Opened the other packet to compare and the one he has eaten from smells AWFUL. Cannot believe I missed this when I opened!

He's blatantly going to get ill, is there anything I can do?

Such an idiot for letting him eat this shit

If it was me I'd make myself sick. But I can't with a three year old. Fuckity fuck fuck

If they are just a day out of date then I'm sure he will be fine . Was the packet open and left in the fridge ? Then maybe they are off but I doubt it . They smell horrid anyways 😬

sparklefarts · 15/02/2019 07:59

No they were sealed and fine, but honestly they smell awful. Not just normal crap food awful, but bad chicken awful. (Just sniffing the packets makes me heave and I have a strong stomach) I have no idea how I didn't notice.

They always smell off to me. I have work colleagues who eat them and the smell is foul. If they were dated yesterday I doubt they will be off, just keep an eye on him and see how he goes.

sparklefarts · 15/02/2019 08:08

Thank you, but honestly I opened another packet to compare and they smell completely different.

Fingers crossed he is made of strong stuff

Was it best before or use by? The chicken is processed and cooked I think it will be fine don’t worry for a day!

sparklefarts · 15/02/2019 08:19

It is use by and honestly, I wouldn't usually worry for a day either, but these slate definitely off, no doubt.

sparklefarts · 15/02/2019 08:20

I don't think they should turn that quickly either, but they have

He is not blatantly going to get ill!

He may be sick, he may not. It's unlikely that anything more will happen.

Newsername · 15/02/2019 08:23

I don’t understand why people buy that processed shit. I feel sick thinking about it.

You won’t know if he’s got food poisoning until tonight or tomorrow. Give him a glass of coke to clear his stomach. Look up advice on the NHS website.

sparklefarts · 15/02/2019 08:32

A glass of coke?

I buy that stuff for ddog. It stinks.

nervousmums · 15/02/2019 08:48

I would maybe call gp for advice. He might not get sick! Fingers crossed. Toddlers must have eaten some pretty dodgy stuff over time!

Fwiw I believe you that they were off and can't understand why so many don't! And also you're entitled to have whatever shit snacks you want in the house as you are a grown up!

nervousmums · 15/02/2019 08:48

Passive aggressive comment of the day award!

sparklefarts · 15/02/2019 08:50

Thank you nervous

I wasn't sure if it was just me explaining badly that they were definitely off haha

spoonset · 15/02/2019 08:53

Also have no idea why people are doubting you that they're off. Very odd. It's not set in stone that he'll be ill though. Just get everything you need in in case he is. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

spoonset · 15/02/2019 08:54

Fingers crossed he isn't I mean! Blush

Sleephead1 · 15/02/2019 09:01

I know what you mean my husband likes that chicken slices from the supermarket ( I think it's horrible and it does have a weird smell ) but honestly one day I opened the fridge and it stank I mean oh my god awful the chicken was best before that date but it was totally off there was no mistaken it I put it in the bin then had to empty bin outside it was so strong. If it smells that bad it is off I don't know what will happen but I would be prepared for him to be sick. Fingers crossed he isn't

sparklefarts · 15/02/2019 09:02

Thank you! I too was finding it very odd 😂

Kids are tougher than we give them credit for. Think of all the times he'll have dropped food and shoved it in his wee mouth before you've noticed, sucked toys at toddler group that 100 other children have dribbled and snottered over etc etc. When my DS was about two he brought over a fruit pouch that he'd been sucking to say he couldn't get any more and when I cut it open it was rancid, I was nearly sick at the sight of it, he was totally fine.
Maybe stick close to home and keep a bowl and towels handy or if you have to go out take an extra change of clothes.

safariboot · 15/02/2019 10:11

A while back there was something about a supermarket knockoff fridge raiders being bad and making people sick.

All you can do is wait and see.

sparklefarts · 15/02/2019 10:31

Thank you both.

Have calmed down from this morning about, just panicked and felt (well feel) awful that I gave it to him and didn't notice.
Feels weird watching him play and be happy and normal, while the has no idea that he could be throwing up and have the shits at basically any point! Feel terrible.

But like you say, it may come to nothing.

Have put the babies stinky poo nappy in the bin and you can still smell the chicken over it! I must have had my nose switched off when I opened the chicken earlier

I gave my LO an out of date yoghurt by accident and her nappies smelt like cheese.

Not that relevant, but hope yours is ok!

bobstersmum · 15/02/2019 13:36

He will be fine. Those things stink farty at the best of times. My dc have eaten and drank all kinds of crap that they've found and one of them even drank the dogs water. (I do feed my dc I swear)
