Another defrost / refreeze query (exciting)

If I've defrosted a chilli (homemade) can I re-freeze it?

Sadly it's not because I've got a better offer [I'm feeling poorly] and we're away / out from tomorrow so it won't get eaten otherwise.

No. Once it has been defrosted it shouldn't be refrozen.

No - you can defrost raw meat, cook it and then re-freeze, but you can't defrost something cooked and the refreeze that.
It's to do with the way the bacteria multiply as it comes out of its frozen state and up to room temp. If you then re-freeze, you are freezing all those new bacteria, which then multiply like mad themselves when it is defrosted the second time.

Hope you feel better soon.

How did you defrost it? In the fridge only then I'd risk it, if out at room temperature then I wouldn't.

No. If you have cooked it then defrosted it you shouldn't freeze it again.

freeze fresh raw ingredients
defrost raw ingredients and cook
freeze cooked meal
defrost and eat

That's the max.
