Did anyone else give their DC a valentines card?

I remember as a kid (about 5ish) getting a card, a box of dominoes and some after eights off my Mum's boyfriend at the time.

Always wondered if this was a thing.

I got DS (aged 4) a valentines card and simply put inside "You're my little Prince. I love you more than the plant earth (something he says to me) Love Mummy"

I obviously got DH a card.

Am I odd?

Lovely thing to do. Got my DS aged6 one too - made his day!

shecamefromgreece · 14/02/2019 15:09

I posed one under my four dcs bedroom door when they were in bed last night "with love from ?"
Dd1(13) thought I was the saddest person in the world "yeah right mum I know it's from you, like it is every year" I asked if it was wet she said " no why?" I said "I thought maybe it was from the fish?"
" for god sake mum you're just not normal" Grin
I think she was secretly pleasedWink
I had to tell the younger three they were from us as they were getting worried someone had been in the houseConfused
I might not bother next year!

themoomoo · 14/02/2019 15:10

no, I think that's weird unless you're having a romantic relationship with them,,,

I think

Sirzy · 14/02/2019 15:12

Personally I think it’s a bit yuck.

I can’t see myself buying a valentine for anyone but my partner.

But by the amount of Christmas-esq children’s present pile pictures I have seen on social media today your not alone

BertrandRussell · 14/02/2019 15:12

I think that’s perfectly normal. But I discovered on here that my dad was a pervert* because he always used to send me a card. So what do I know? Grin

*he wasn’t.

Bluebell9 · 14/02/2019 15:14

My parents (DM) always got my siblings and I something small, like a chocolate heart lolly from Thorntons. I loved it. They still sometimes do it now (if they remember!).

BertrandRussell · 14/02/2019 15:14

Shappi Khorsandi put a picture on Twitter of the flowers her mum sends her every year. Another pervert obvs.

DelurkingAJ · 14/02/2019 15:15

My DMum still sends me one. As a very not cool teenager it was very very nice to be able to say with a straight face that I’d got one. My actual friends knew it was from DMum but not the people who were trying to get a rise out of me.

SparkyBlue · 14/02/2019 15:15

I bought a card and some chocolates for my DC. It's a bit of fun

MadeForThis · 14/02/2019 15:16

I got my dd3 a red heart ❣ helium balloon. She was delighted. More about the fact it was a balloon than Valentine's Day though.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 14/02/2019 15:16

I don't really get it myself but maybe that's because my parents never have me any!

themoomoo · 14/02/2019 15:17

madeforthis I thought everyone knew you shouldn't buy helium balloons?

SparklingTwilight · 14/02/2019 15:17

Valentines was not something that was done in my family. I have bought the DC a heart shaped biscuit each for dessert tonight.

Deeedeeee · 14/02/2019 15:17

I usually make a (completely rubbish) card for DH and DC (11 and 7). This year I also got DCs a small chocolate bar each and
AND let them eat it at breakfast time. DH got some beer. One year I even made a card for the cat, at the request of DD, so she didn't feel left out. Got to have your own traditions, even if they're bonkers.

HalfBloodPrincess · 14/02/2019 15:19

I sent my dd (15) a funky pigeon one, but she doesn’t know it’s from me.
Don’t know if it was a smart move, but she’s going through a bit of a self deprecating phase at the moment and I thought it might make her feel good about herself.

She hasn’t mentioned it yet (arrived Tuesday) but when I went in to get her washing from her room earlier it’s up on her windowsill.

Sweepingcalamity · 14/02/2019 15:24

I always get my DD one from the dog!

And as I sew I usually send my goddaughters a small present I've made like a lavender bag or wheat pillow sort of thing.

Fatbutt · 14/02/2019 15:25

not this year... DC got a card and gift from the pet though!

We celebrate it as a day of love, and get little token gifts for each other, DC gets something for us and a card too - we went very home made and 'poundland challenge' this year so ended up with a very eclectic and fun mix of gifts!

evaperonspoodle · 14/02/2019 15:27

Growing up a friend's DF always got them Valentines pressies and I always felt I was missing out. I don't even do anything for DH let alone the dc.

HaventGotAllDay · 14/02/2019 15:27

No, it's not a thing.
Unless you're weird and think it's normal to have adults sending children "romantic" gifts.
I always presume people that do this put their baby girls in those foul t shirts that say "little sex bomb" etc.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 14/02/2019 15:27

No but ds made me a lovely card at school

cjt110 · 14/02/2019 15:32

FWIW his card said something like "I love your cute face" on the front.

It's the first time I have ever got him one (have received nursery crafted ones from him in the past). He was delighted to have got a card this morning and tore into the envelope with gusto. Just a little something I suppose so he didnt feel like Daddy had got a card and he hadn't.

I suppose it's personal choice

I always presume people that do this put their baby girls in those foul t shirts that say "little sex bomb" etc. Not me. Cheers

We celebrate it as a day of love Yep, that's how it's been done over the years in our family. My parents wish us happy valentines, friends also do.

Whilst I know you don't need a specific day to tell your nearest and dearest you love them, it's nice to have a day where you step back and say it.

I don't even give my OH one, let alone the kids 😃

expatinspain · 14/02/2019 15:42

No card, but I got my DD a heart shaped cookie. She presented me and DP with a homemade heart on a stick this morning with cute messages to us, so I bought the cookie (hadn't previously got her anything!). DP bought her some chocolates, because she asked for them when he was buying mine 😂
