Do you valet your car before an MOT?

My car is due a service and MOT on Friday and I've heard from some work colleagues they wash and valet their car before this service. Only passed my test last year so wondering... Is this the norm?

I don't because they do it for me!

RJnomore1 · 13/02/2019 23:09

Haha

No

mrsjackrussell · 13/02/2019 23:10

Never heard of it

No it’s not the norm. No I do t make extra effort. Just make sure it’s tidy!

cestlavielife · 13/02/2019 23:10

No because the garage does it as part of the service

DramaAlpaca · 13/02/2019 23:10

I never do, they won't fail a car for being a bit messy.

Didyeeaye · 13/02/2019 23:11

Do they do it? That would be great! I literally have no idea what to expect. Everyone was saying about valeting it like it's the done thing lol

I tidy up all the crap the kids have left in the back seat so the garage can hoover it for me!

unicornsarereal1 · 13/02/2019 23:11

Hahaha no! Lol

I make sure they can reach all the seatbelts and sit in the drivers seat - without being swamped by McDonald's wrappers haha

Other than that nope - take it as it is and pass it through! Lol

7Days · 13/02/2019 23:13

I do make sure it's clean. Which is no easy task as my car turns into a pit so quickly.

My analogy is this. I do wash my undercarriage when I'm going for a smear. But I don't get professionally vajazzled

HappydaysArehere · 13/02/2019 23:14

Clean and tidy as dh always says if you hand in a real mess the garage treats it in less careful way. Our garage doesn’t clean or valet it and they are a mains dealer who I purchased it from.

Didyeeaye · 13/02/2019 23:16

Aw thanks for commenting every one. I was sat like a wee loser nodding along, while panicking inside thinking "Damn it, I've no time to take it before friday" 🤣

SmarmyMrMime · 13/02/2019 23:16

I clean it enough so it no longer looks like the interior of a McDonalds bin and that it's physically possible to move the seat back out of "shortarse driver" position.

Thank goodness my service/ MOTs are due in the summer Grin

Floralnomad · 13/02/2019 23:19

I don’t do anything for mine but the inside is generally tidy anyway .

CluedoAddict · 14/02/2019 07:14

I make sure it's fairly clean and tidy. My Dad always says they look more favourably on a well looked after car.

Neptunesgiraffe · 14/02/2019 07:26

I give it a general tidy. I also remove all the bags of stuff to be donated to the charity shop that have been in the boot for several months.

JellySlice · 14/02/2019 07:51

I book the car in for service and MOT at the same time. So not only does it always pass the MOT because they've fixed everything during the service, but they've also cleaned it for me because the service includes a light valeting.

SoyDora · 14/02/2019 07:56

No. An MOT is about safety, not appearances. I clear the rubbish out, that’s it.

ShadyLady53 · 14/02/2019 07:58

I make sure it’s clean and tidy and get it valeted afterwards. I used to get it done at the dealership and they offered to valet it but I get it done at a nearby garage now that doesn’t do valets.

Fairylea · 14/02/2019 07:59

My mum had a real thing about doing this. Someone she knew who worked in a garage said he judges pre MOT how well the person has cared for the car by how clean it is and therefore how likely it is to have issues. I think that’s terrible but it really stayed with her and she would always clean and vacuum it before she took it anywhere!

I just do a quick bin rubbish job and make sure I don’t have snotty kids tissues and half eaten food all over the place.

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/02/2019 08:26

Like others I clear the rubbish out so it is ready for them to vacuum it.

The only time my car gets cleaned and vacuumed is when it goes to the garage, I can't see out of the windows, or my hands get dirty opening the doors or boot.

Ffsnosexallowed · 14/02/2019 10:08

In n.ireland the mot system is different, far fewer testing places and I think there is the norm to have an MOT wash/valet beforehand? My mum was shocked that my unwashed car sails through its MOT.

3boysandabump · 14/02/2019 11:07

I take the car seats out so they can test the seatbelts so I have to hoover all of the crap that collects under them but that's it

wendz86 · 14/02/2019 11:10

I sent mine in with all sorts of rubbish all over . I was meant to go with no kids but school was cancelled because of snow so carseats still in etc.

IWouldPreferNotTo · 14/02/2019 11:16

I clean and hoover it as a respect thing. I respect the work they are doing and want them to have a clean working environment.
