My neighbours cctv

My neighbour over the road had cctv fitted today.
It's a huge circular camera , like you see in town centres and it's in direct line with my living room window.
I'm not bothered about the cctv ( although I think the camera is disproportionate)
I'm just curious to how much of my life they can see.
Dp is going over tomorrow to ask them how much of out property is being filmed and why.
I have a feeling they don't have to tell us and are not legally doing anything wrong.
I'm going to have to keep the blinds shut for privacy aren't I ?

I have a feeling that you can legally request that their camera not record your property. My parents successfully challenged a neighbour, but I don't know what legislation they used.

Thinking about it, I think the neighbouring property was also used for business, which made the difference.

We have cctv on our property and it is against the law to film outside of your own property - ours are trained on the driveway and front door. You also have to display cctv warning stickers.
That being said following a recent vandalism act in a neighbouring street the local police officer called to see if we may have picked up the perpetrators on our cameras.

I might be wrong but I'm under the impression they're not allowed to capture anything over their boundary. Around 12 years ago we had a tiny cctv camera in our window looking out as we lived on a really rough estate and our car kept getting vandalised, the police came round to make sure we couldn't see anything we shouldn't on the camera and we had to put a sign up to say we had it, like I said that was 12 years ago though

You might find this guide useful.

A normal camera would not bother me but this is a huge camera, like you see in a shopping centre or a airport.

Check out the government website - www.gov.uk - guidance on the use of domestic CCTV.
People who record images outside of their property boundaries have to comply with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation.
If you have questions or complaints about domestic CCTV you can contact the information Commissoners Office on 0303123113.

Seems a bit OTT. I'd want to check it wasn't filming my house too.

Check out ICO - they have section on cctvs.
