Downloading films to watch abroad?

I'm posting in the hope that someone a bit more tech savvy than me can help.

I've often read threads about entertaining children on long journeys and people say they download films / TV programmes etc. So last time we went away I downloaded some films for the dc from Amazon prime and bought headphones. Only to find that once we were abroad I just got error messages.

We're facing another long journey soon and I'm just wondering how everyone else does it?

I don’t know about Amazon Prime, but I download shows from BBC iPlayer and All 4 to watch abroad and they work fine.

But with All 4 your downloads expire after a certain amount of time (7 days I think, but I might be wrong), so wait until right before your holiday to download stuff. Perhaps Amazon Prime downloads also have an expiry date?

Netflix works although I may have had to keep it on airplane mode for it to not know where I was!

Netflix does work but I think the download will only last for a coup,e of days. This is fine as long as the dc don’t watch the first 5 mins of every film downloaded before going back to the first one.

I think you can do it through vlc as well, not quite sure how though. I am a techno twat and I rely on my DP a bit more than I should do.

Thanks everyone for the replies - I knew someone would know!

With the Amazon thing it's not that they expire, it's just that as soon as you are abroad you get a message saying it 'can't be viewed' or words to that effect. I can watch them in the UK though. That's why I'm finding it hard to know what to download as I won't know if it works until I get there.

I've now downloaded iPlayer and am off to look at all4 and netflix.

Thanks for the help!

You need to download a VPN app (we use Zen) and then you can change the country you are watching from to UK.

Most streaming services will detect VPNs and smart DNS services.

Turn off the internet on whatever device you're using.
