Endoscopy and sedation - handhold :(

Am due to have a specialised camera test (endoscopic ultrasound/ERCP/both) down on Fri, and due to adverse childhood experiences am climbing the walls with stress and panic attacks. I've asked for heavier sedation than they usually offer and heard it said it's a "general anaesthetic", but have my doubts.

Any experiences? Last thing I need is flashbacks and trauma. (Have PTSD and cPTSD).

If they’ve said general anaesthetic they will give you a general anaesthetic. I have assisted with a GA for an erpc before (I assist anaesthetists with anaethetics for a job).

Hope that helps you put your mind at rest a little.

Hi, I had endoscopic ultrasound and dont remember a thing after getting on the table. I was very worried too as had two previous endoscopy which were horrible including one which was supposed to be under sedation but was aware the whole time. But explained that to anaethetist who was very good and reassured me and did the job right!

Hope it all goes well for you Flowers

I had an endoscopy without sedation and it was horrific.
My friend was going for one and I convinced her to get sedated. She came out saying it was fine.
Best of luck am sure you'll be ok.

I had this and, as said above, remember nothing. It was a complete non event. I had no after affects and was back to normal as soon as general wore off. And yes it was a full general. Its difficult not to worry but really it will be totally fine. I know what its like to be overcome with that anxiety as l recently had an MRI and was in a panic about the enclosed space so you have my sympathy. But you will be back here afterwards saying you worried for nothing. Mind yourself.

Thank you, feeling a little less apprehensive now.

I recently had a tooth out with sedation not GA and even that meant I didn’t remeber a thing!
I’ve got video of me talking after as I asked DH to do it as I was curious and o don’t remember any of it.

So don’t worry, a GA will defo work.

I had an endo with sedation too in 2007 - same thing don’t remeber anything til the next day
