external hard drive advice?

i am an obsessive photographer and over the ten+ years since i received my first camera - and with three kids - i have upwards of 15,000 photos stored across a couple of laptops and multiple memory sticks. one of my laptops has started being a bit dodgy so i’ve started to think that i desperately need to back up my photos onto an external hard drive. i am a complete dinosaur when it comes to technology though and have no idea what kind of external hard drive i would need or what size. any help would be very much appreciated!

This should be big enough:

www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-Expansion-Portable-PlayStation-STEA1000400/dp/B00TKFEEAS/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=external+hard+drive&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1550020512&sr=8-3

I don't know how much 15,000 photos would come to, but 1 TB is one of the biggest sizes available currently.

You could right click and check the properties of your folders on each device, add the file sizes up and see how much it comes to as well.

As AGGGH says Seagate are a good brand but I would get a bigger one. 5tb can now be had for a reasonable price. Back up onto a second drive too as they can fail. Or you could look into cloud storage.
