What kind of shoe/trainer do I need?

Apologies, this probably isn't the right place to post but I don't know where is!

I've signed up to do the half moonwalk this year (a moment of pure madness Grin)

I need to start training now, I probably should've started about 10 years ago, but too late now!

Anyway I have no idea what kind of shoe/trainer to get, gym shoe? Running shoe? Am I right in thinking a running shoe woukd be best? I won't be running but hoping to manage a decent speed walk, before I finish on my hands and knees Grin

Anyone got any advice (apart from don't do it)

ASICS - go and get fitted by a specialist store. And invest in good socks - 1000 mike are good !!
Enjoy and good luck Thanks

Go to a specialist like Runners Need or Sweatshop and get some advice from them - and try before you buy. Let them look at your walking gait to see what you suit you best.

There are some tips here:

When we entered the Moonwalk years ago, New Balance used to make walking specific trainers (i.e. designed for marathon walking witha certain % of profit donated to breast cancer charities). I assume they aren't the only ones.

Thank you, I've had a look and now recovered from the shock Grin

Will go and have a look at the weekend and thanks for the tip about socks, I wouldn't have thought about them!

I'm a runner and your socks are as important as your shoes. Yes the are hideously expensive and generally hideous ! But a necessary evil!
