I am 43 female and my resting heart rate is 48. It's very low - should I be worried??

It depends how fit you are and tbh on the accuracy of your gadget.

I'm 48 and mine runs around 43, but I am very fit. Occasionally it dips to thirty something which I don't think is good but as I'm not unwell I'm assuming that's an off reading.

What is it usually? If there's been a big change, that could be cause for concern.

MadauntofA · 12/02/2019 20:06

If you are very fit then it might be normal for you. If you are not/ have any kind of symptoms/ are unwell, then you really need to see a dr for them to tell you not to worry!

Rubytinsleslippers · 12/02/2019 20:09

Depends on what is normal for you. If you have always had a slow heart rate or if it has dropped.
Mine has always been low. I am not super fit but my gp jokes i could have been a professional athlete as i also have good lung capacity.
I just have a large heart muscle. As in physically large. No health issues at all.

StillMedusa · 12/02/2019 20:11

Depends on what your normal is!
My dd1 has a resting heart rate in low forties, as does DH... it's just how they are! DH is pretty fit for a 57 year old but DD1 is 27 and not as active, though she does surf and snowboard season dependent!

If you feel unwell though, best to get it checked!

I'm mid forties, slim but unfit- no exercise apart from walking around! My resting heart rate can often drop below 50 and I have recorded it as low as 43. I have asked about it and as long as it's not a change, you feel well ie no dizziness, breathlessness etc etc then it's just what it is. Apparently. Does worry me though, keep wondering if it will just get slower & I will end up with a pacemaker!!

BlueMerchant · 12/02/2019 20:16

My resting rate can be in the 40s but only because I take a beta-blocker. I'd get it checked out but wouldn't worry if you feeling well. Maybe it's normal for you.

Racmactac · 12/02/2019 20:19

I'm certainly not feeling poorly. I guess I'm fit, I run 2 or 3 times a week.

It's always been in the 50's but was shocked it was down to quite so low. I have a Garmin forerunner that monitors heart rate.

It depends how fit you are. DH has Bradycardia and his dips to about 37 (his Apple Watch gives him warnings sometimes) but the Dr said that it's because he's very fit. It's also known as athletic heart syndrome but it can the result of an issue ie I think blocked arteries or something like that.

Are you eating enough?
