I think I need some new friends

I have a few friends but none like when I was in my late teens or early twenties. My current best friend I think I actually fancy so that's no good. My other close friend is very needy and I get very little back compared to what I give.
I have some old friends from school who I see a couple of times a year but that is not the close kind of friends I'm after and plus I always seem to do the arranging there anyway.
So, mid forties, how do I make friends?? I've never had to try before, that might sound big headed but people seem to have made friends with me ( I do often wonder why!) can anyone give me any tips?

I started running. Got involved in volunteering at parkrun. Joined a running group. Made some utterly amazing friends who all love cake 🍰

Btw I started running at 46 😁

Thanks, I have recently taken up a new sport but they are all younger than me, not a problem for me but they probably don't want to hang out with an older woman. I enjoy the sport so won't be stopping but I don't think I'll make friends there. Perhaps I should try running.

Try parkrun if you have one local. You can walk run or volunteer 🙂 generally very friendly i have found

Friends are like partners. Hard to find good ones and you generally meet them in random places.

Most of my good friends have been cultivated through shared interests, rather than through shared situations. Eg through a sport rather than because we happened to be born in the same year in the same location and be in a school class together.
