3 week old baby outgrowing 0-3 month clothes!!

What the hell?!
My baby is literally 3 weeks old, was 7lb at birth but already outgrown most of his clothes, he's really long not chubby at all but he can't straighten his legs in most of his babygrows.

Anyone else find this?

Yes - My DD was just over 8lb at birth and was pretty consistently in the 'next size up' her entire childhood. Now a very healthy, tall teenager!

ShowOfHands · 11/02/2019 20:13

Yep. DD was 7lbs at birth and 23lb by 6 months. She was just long. She's 11 now, taller than me, size 7 feet and skinny as a whippet.

Yes my DS did the same. He's a giant now as well.

Yeah I think most baby clothing sizes run small.
If it's any solace, my baby, who is tracking on the 50th percentile for all his growth markers (so a completely average sized baby), was in 3-6 month clothing at 7 weeks old.

Might be better to get footless babygrows? That way they will fit a bit longer, and you can just put socks on the feet.
Also if your baby is growing that quickly, stock up on a few sizes up too.

Yes, my 5 week old is the same. It’s funny as my 2 girls were actually heavier than him but always fit in the ‘right’ size clothes. DS just has really long legs! I bought some outfits with no feet in so that his feet weren’t scrunched up but they all look like shorts on him Grin

Also depends where you get the clothes from. A friend of mine is convinced her child is huge.... but gets her clothes from Primark. My 11yr old is in men's sizes there so l think they come up small

Cuddlysnowleopard · 11/02/2019 20:18

My eldest was always a size up. So, at newborn he needed 3-6 months. At 3 months he was in 6-9 etc.

He's 15 years now, and wears adult man medium.

He's built like a fit tennis player, not an ounce of fat on him, but he's tall and broad.

I'd just go up a size and not worry about it.

MyBreadIsEggy · 11/02/2019 20:21

My nephew was like this. He was 8lb 15oz when he was born, but looked like a toddler! He was very long too. I bought a beautiful gift set in newborn size and it never fit him! My sister re-gifted it back to me as a joke 2 years later when I had my tiny 6lb baby!

Oly4 · 11/02/2019 20:21

Yep, it’s fine. Don’t worry about sizes, some babies have long limbs!

explodingkitten · 11/02/2019 20:23

Both my brother and me never fitted 0-3 months, not even just after birth. We were tall. My mum had all these clothes that didn't fit Grin

Has happened to all my kids. DD1 is still in a size 2.5 years ahead. DD2 is about 6 months ahead now so her relative growth rate has slowed. DD3 is a size ahead, but pushing out so almost 2 sizes ahead. She is still a baby, but similar to yours is long. Dd1 was chubtastic and dd2 in the middle, all similar birth weights.

He clearly takes after DH as I'm a short arse Grin
