Does anyone know the phrase/word for the concept that you can prove anything by using anything.
I remember coming across this years ago when I was doing my A Levels but I can’t remember what it’s called.
The idea being that you can use something say a speech to support/ “prove” your point
by perhaps only selecting the bits that fit your theory or poetically interpreting it for want of a better word.
I was reminded of this today by a younger colleague showing everyone a YouTube video of a song as proof of a singer’s allegiance to the devil/illuminati. He had taken a few lines in the song and took it as that being proof. Ignoring parts that would disprove that theory.
I was reminded of the above concept but couldn’t remember what it’s called. Google isn’t returning anything making me think perhaps 17 year old me made it up!
