Or am I the last surviving one?

To clarify-fans of her books, not her rather dodgy life choices....

I enjoyed The Mists of Avalon way back when ... my angle is as a massive Arthurphile ...

I liked Avalon too- but I am deeply wedded to Mary Stewart!

I loved her books until I found out about how horrific she was as a person, and now I can't even stand to look at them. Her books went in the bin rather than to a charity shop.

So I think you may be the last of a a few . . .

Well of course, Mary Stewart is the gold standard (It was as a result of reading her I read MBZ.) T.H. White was also good - and John Steinbecks (sadly unfinished) masterful rendering of Morte D'Arthur ...

I read Mists of Avalon back in the day. I can’t remember anything about it now.

With the caveat that the life and times of MBZ would not be my choice of subject, there's a lot of flawed artists around ...

Read The Mists of Avalon over & over & over when I was in my late teens. Read The Forest House too but haven't read the others.

Never heard of Mary Stewart, so shall have to go and see what she's written now.

Not sure I want to know what MBZ has been up to - sounds bad!

MiaFarrowsWheelbarrow · 11/02/2019 11:50

I enjoyed reading Mists of Avalon but threw my copy away after the child abuse claims made by her children. I am no longer a fan.

Fazackerley · 11/02/2019 11:51

I used to love them! What's she done?!

BertrandRussell · 11/02/2019 12:24

Ah. I was behind the times. I was only aware of the accusation that she had not reported her husband for alleged sexual abuse. I didn’t realise that she had been accused herself. Shit.

She wrote a fantastic Arthurian trilogy- and a lot of charming but frothy love/adventure stories. You can safely ignore those!
