Boring - irons

Morning,

I need a new iron. Much to my shame, I've reached the age of 40 without buying an iron. My mum got me one when I bought my first flat 15 years ago, and when I moved in with DH I used his. Now I need a new one. Any tips on what I need to look for in a good one? Or any recommendations. Not sure of budget at the moment. Willing to pay for something decent, but nothing too ridiculous.

Thanks!

Ha ha! No advice as I'm in the same position; had my Great-grandma's on leaving for uni, then DM bought me one as it was purple!!

I'd suggest getting a steam generator iron. They're far more powerful than standard irons and make ironing a lot quicker IMO.

Of course, there's a whole tribe on here who would advocate not ironing at all... Grin

I got an iron recently that at first I loved, really powerful, but it doesn’t have a non stick plate and now has a sticky bit on it, like my mums did in the 70s.

Make sure you get a non stick plate is my advice.

I don't like the big steam generator ones at all.

I always like an iron to be heavy so I tend to just pick them all up and buy the heaviest 😂
