Disposing of clutter

I am trying to declutter my house, without sounding really dim Blush what do I do with it all?
Anything obviously recyclable (paper, whole plastic, textiles) I can sort into piles, but what about the bits of random tat I seem to find? Am I supposed to break them up into little bits to sort into the right recyclable? I remember as a child being taken down to the local tip with a large black bag and tipping the whole lot into landfill, of course I am keen not to do this.

It depends on your patience!
I will break down to extract metal screws and plates out to recycle them, but most people would just tip old composite items in bin if a charity shop or freecycle can't use it.

I understand that you want to recycle correctly and we normally do, but when you're majorly decluttering you normally want to just get rid of stuff asap. I just got rid of my junk quickly by going to the local tip. I did sort textiles, wood, paper etc, partly if I'm really honest because our tip are very strict on people not mixing stuff.

Yep I’ve turned up with a bag to throw away, only to have the workmen sort through it. Was very embarrassing!
