If Madonna was 60ish male artist...

I remember Michael Jackson, Prince and Madonna being the big three at a certain point in time.

Why are there so many lavish biocumentaries about male artists who’ve valiantly made it to 50 but so much vitriol for Madonna.

I wasn’t a huge fan at the time as I was busy being an arsehole teen and she was too mainstream but it’s jarring how she’s been whitewashed from music history.

Because she has the audacity not to die and get old instead, Mick Jagger is lauded for it, Madonna is derided. Misogyny pure and simple.

Absolutely Betty but things are changing fast now. Why is no one questioning this apart from us civilians?
I’m guessing Madonna still has an agent etc.
Would they not be seeing a huge opportunity right now?

Because she did it on her terms. It still jars them. You look at Cher and Tina Turner they are older than Madonna but they dont get the hate.

They just dont like the fact she doesnt care. She does it her way and not on some mans say so.

I loved Madonna in my teens and most of my school friends did. I remember mostly comments from men and boys talking about her and it was either "slag or she needs a good seeing to" where as Prince and Jacko were cool.
Someone made a documentary on her last year on YouTube called Mer Girl and it is full of her past interviews and shows her as a very clever articulate woman. She does get asked about different attitudes towards herself and Prince. In the comments there is a lot of love for her which I was surprised at.
My sm took me to the "Who's that girl tour" and she was fantastic.

Plus she talked about empowerment for women, which the male establishment didnt care for.And sex,she talked a lot about sex.Especially safe sex.

I never saw Madonna as a feminist icon. Everything she did was just to get publicity to help her sell more records. I find her very humourless and unlikeable.

dustarr73 · 10/02/2019 10:48

@JaneJeffer but she is a feminist. She done it herself, and her own way.Never depended on men,to je shes the ultimate feminist.

And she sold and broke records on the way.

I 100% agree op and often say the same thing myself.
