90 Days Alcohol-free -anyone in?

GirlFliesHome · 09/02/2019 18:46

I have done Dry Jan a few times, Stoptober and Dry July. But I always get to the end then have a few drinks and in a few weeks am back where I started in terms of using alcohol to try and de-stress and otherwise smooth out the bumps in my day. (Plus I never seem to lose any weight!)

I have been researching about how long to start REALLY feeling the benefits, etc (although my sleep gets alot better very fast) etc. Apparently it takes about 90 days to really feel the benefits, feel better etc.

It's a new challenge and I want to really go for it. I did Dry Jan, then drank and stopped again and I am not on Day 5 of being AF again. I am aiming for 90 days and would love some company!

Even 2 weeks off(which I am, tomorrow) has benefits!

When I have lost a bit of weight I might even take up horse riding again.

On day 17. Very glad restaurants sell alcohol free beer.

GirlFliesHome · 17/02/2019 09:45

And I have saved (roughly, rounding up) 11,000 calories.

What AF beers do you like? I have really only tried Becks blue, but I have an AF Budweiser in my fridge that may make an appearance today.

I'm in. Today is day 1 for me.

llangennith · 17/02/2019 10:32

I don't think I've gone 9 days let alone 90. Yep count me in. Day 1 today for me too.

SimoneStrasser · 17/02/2019 10:35

Heineken 00 is my favourite, better than Becks imo.

SimoneStrasser · 17/02/2019 10:36

Brew Dog Nanny State ale is also very good.

CheddarAndCrackers · 17/02/2019 11:01

We're on 4 months alcohol free, it's been easy apart from when cooking Sunday dinner, that's the time I'm most tempted by a glass of Red. No weight loss though... Sad

RJnomore1 · 17/02/2019 13:07

Can we check in every day to do a count?

Imnot going to be teetotal for the rest of my life but I've lost 2.5 stone, im 42 and I can't handle my drink the way I used to. I've just done dry January but a couple of weekends of alcohol have persuaded me I'm better without.

Plus I still have more weight to lose and that priory website taking about the calories in wine! Good lord. Then you get munchy and eat crisps then the next day you feel rough so you want chips or something.

pink412 · 17/02/2019 13:10

Not had a drink since September. And I don’t miss it but never been a big drinker could easily go a year without it

GirlFliesHome · 17/02/2019 19:49

Great to have people on board. :)

The Budweiser was okay- weak but okay. I had pineapple juice and lemonade at the pub. I'll try Nanny state!

DH is in for the 90 days too. He does not drink alot so I doubt it's going to be too hard for him.

Day 14 of 90. [Mexican wave]

7 and a half hours sleep and I feel quite fresh. I am usually a 9 hour -toss-and-turn-and-wake-up-grumpy kind of girl.

I'll join in! I've been AT since new years day. Decided to do dry January without telling anyone in case I cracked and downed a bottle of wine at some point.

Prior to this I would have had a drink most days whether it be a g and t or a few glasses of wine. I find hangovers have really got worse in the past few years and was worried about my dependency on alcohol.

So after the first week of breaking the habit I find I don't really.miss it now. I was nervous about a couple of social occasions without drinking but then they went ok and it turns out I don't need a drink to be full of wit and charm Wink.

Husband did suggest just cutting back the drinking but I felt I need to go completely without. A friend did an AF year last year and I think I might try this too. If I manage I'd say that will be me for good.

GirlFliesHome · 18/02/2019 18:40

Welcome Sunny!

I can't cut back either. I am a bit all or nothing and the effort of abstaining entirely is actually less than trying to stick to one or two. DH on the other hand.... he can genuinely take or leave it.

I have never actually done more than 28 consecutive days (pregnancies excepting of course!). I usually pat myself on the back and finish Dry Jan or Dry July a few days early....

Day 15!

Seashell80 · 19/02/2019 09:27

Right, I've had enough, due to very stressful stressful stuff over past month or so I have been drinking far more than is good for me so I'm going to give it a go!!! 👊🏻

GirlFliesHome · 19/02/2019 10:18

Hello Seashell!

So is today Day 1 for you? What plans for the stressful times? What is your trigger time? Mine tends to be when I get home from work (but I am on a late shift today so will be in bed asap after returning home).

Welcome aboard!!

Seashell80 · 19/02/2019 11:08

Girlflieshome trigger time is early evening after work or after hard day with toddler! There are quite a few nice AF beers and wines that I like so far will stock up on those, might even treat myself to a bottle of seedlip 😊

Seashell80 · 19/02/2019 11:09

As for the stressful times, a good old fashioned cuppa will have to do! ☕️

MatchsticksForMyEyesReturns · 19/02/2019 17:36

Day 50 here. Today got a letter from Cafcass saying abusive ex has reapplied to court to vary the child arrangements order. If that won't drive me to drink, nothing will.

GirlFliesHome · 20/02/2019 06:51

Morning all.

Day 16 here.

Matchsticks I am thinking of you. Has Cafcass been involved in the past? if so, they will hopefully know his history very well and it will come up again in this new hearing? I am sending you a virtual hug and am thinking of you. Thanks

Morning! Day 4...midweek I don't drink at all so not been a challenge so far. Hope everyone is doing ok.

MatchsticksForMyEyesReturns · 20/02/2019 07:34

Yes, they did a full section 7 report for the hearings last year. Dc very clear that they don't want to see him unsupervised, but he's pushing. Woke up feeling anxious and uneasy today.

GirlFliesHome · 20/02/2019 18:03

Very best of luck Matchsticks. Thanks
