Afternoon all. Its my 50th birthday, coming up soon and friends and family are asking what I would like. I can't think of anything...What did you get for significant birthdays?

Pandora type bracelet and the charms to go with it?

wellhonestly · 09/02/2019 16:51

I didn't really want any gifts I didn't need.
I had a tea party and asked people to donate to a charity that I chose.
My mother gave me money, and I commissioned a silversmith to make a brooch.

Eric Clapton concert at The Royal Albert Hall. Happened to be on my birthday so DJ thought it would be a good present 🤔

Depends on the budget.
Weekend away somewhere you've always wanted to go.
Handbag
Jewellery
Watch
I had lots of treats including a Dualit toaster that I'd always lusted over

If you can’t think of anything, do do really want it?

Its just a birthday like any others.

topcat2014 · 09/02/2019 17:14

I took loads of friends out for a meal for my 40th.

I am toying with the idea of a tattoo for my 50th, although my wife and mother would disown me, and I look like the weedy guy in the old Mr Muscle adverts - so they really would not suit me :)

MrsEricBana · 09/02/2019 17:17

Not much and I am not at all materialistic but I was very upset, particularly as we'd recently been to lots of glittery 50ths. My honest advice is think what sort of thing would be particularly special to you regardless of what others have/do (family party/glittery event/quiet weekend away/jewellery etc) and try and convey that to your family. I didn't, they didn't ask and I felt very wounded indeed as I felt that others were fussed over, I always do things for birthdays of others who. FWIW friends seem to have had trip away or party plus some jewellery or a painting.

Floralnomad · 09/02/2019 17:18

For my 50th I got a PS4 , which I didn’t want but I was quite ill at the time and ds thought I’d like to play Crash Bandicoot as I couldn’t get out and about . I’ve had nice gifts for other birthdays though and dh uses the PS4 as a blu Ray player .

Whatthefunk · 09/02/2019 18:12

See, this is the thing, every time I think of something, I second guess myself and wonder if I really want it..... but I keep being told that I have to come up with ideas

Family gave me a bit of money and I bought three rings from Pandora.
Husband took me to Venice for a long weekend.

HemlockStarglimmer · 09/02/2019 18:27

A loo seat for my 50th. A joke that back fired badly as I'm am still upset seven years later.

flowerycurtain · 09/02/2019 18:42

I want a hot tub for mine.

Possibly followed by a party in a field with a hog roast as we'll have been married 20 years at the same time.

A day learning Para-gliding. It was fab (although not enough to try to be a proper paragliding person!).
